My Kind of Town

Incredible New Site Tracks the Mayhem of Chicago [More]

That this can even be done tells us so much about the population centers with the "democracy" clout to rule over the rest of us. We're living in places that aren't characterized by "mayhem" because public behavior reflects the character of their inhabitants. For now.

Forget it, Jake. It's Chi-Town.

A good feature of heyjackass.com (besides the always entertaining Shot-in-the-Junk-O-Meter) is that the address of every shooting is posted. If you're familiar with Chicago, you can see that almost all of the shootings are south of Armitage Avenue (2000 North). With the exception of the flash mobs coming to the Loop and Magnificent Mile to loot stores, mug tourists, and carjack nice rides, the shootings are in the neighborhoods that have always been high-crime neighborhoods; they're just higher-crime now. (If you don't know the city, there's a helpful map that shows the shootings, by neighborhood.)
