Death to Jingjing and Chacha

With their big blue blinking eyes and their quirky personal websites, there is no denying the cuteness of the cartoon cops at the front line of China’s battle for control of the internet.

But the role played by Jingjing and Chacha, the animated online icons recently introduced by police in the southern Chinese boomtown of Shenzhen, is entirely serious.

Here's a clear response message I'd like to see spread across China:

Why not join me in sending a copy of these symbols of repression getting their just deserts to the Chinese government , along with the message "Death to Jingjing and Chacha"?

Who knows? Maybe these new mascots will find their way into the hands of some liberty dissidents and give them some ideas. Perhaps if this--or similar graphics--makes its way around, it'll turn up on Google-China image searches that aren't filtered to suppress the terms "Jingjing" and "Chacha."

And perhaps, some day, the haughtiness will be gone from the wretched, imperious Chen Minli. Perhaps her arrogance will be replaced by guilty trembling as a citizen tribunal judges her for crimes against liberty...

We're the Only Ones Properly Trained Enough

At least once a year, police officers throughout Kansas head to the firing range, line up their handgun sights and fire 50 rounds at a body-shaped target.

Once a year?

50 rounds?

That's what "the only ones" consider "proper training"?

No wonder Gov. Kathleen Sebelius "thinks concealed carry creates a risk for law enforcement."

A good number of the folks who would opt to do so consider 50 rounds a warm-up session. Do we really want to subject our officers in the field to such disproportionate and overwhelming competence...?

I-Witless News Team Warns of "New" Gun Scare

The weapon is called a F-N Five-Seven Handgun. According to the safety alert obtained by The Boston Globe, the handgun fires bullets at such a high speed, they can punch through a bulletproof vest.

Just once I'd like to see an "Eyewitness News Team" comprised of more than vacuous bubbleheads with no actual knowledge of their subject matter.

A measure that would regulate loaded firearms in vehicles was blocked in a Senate committee Friday and likely will fail unless it is substantially changed.

Citizens can carry firearms with loaded magazines in vehicles in Utah, but SB24, sponsored by Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Lehi, would clarify where and how the firearm is secured.

More controversially, Madsen's bill also would allow guns to be carried with a cartridge in position ready to fire...

The Utah Association of Police Chiefs and other law enforcement groups say such ready-to-fire guns in vehicles could escalate road-rage confrontations into firefights and make more arms available to thieves and children.

Naturally. As we've proven time and again here at WarOnGuns, they're the only ones professional enough to be trusted with loaded firearms. The rest of us are just a bunch of uneducated, tyrannical, emotionally unstable, arrogant, vicious, accident-prone, unethical, careless, untrustworthy and hotheaded brutes who will only end up hurting ourselves or others...

True Cost of Gun Registry Will Shock

Canadians will be shocked by the true cost of the federal government's ill-fated gun registry, says new Public Security Minister Stockwell Day.

He said figures bureaucrats have shown him during briefings for his new portfolio are much higher than previously thought.

Just make sure you look at the right set of books.

What should be shocking is the very concept, not its cost.

Trouble in Paradise: One Board Member's Response

I got one email back regarding my reply to the Board regarding cougar sightings at R-Ranch in the Sequoias and the Board's new "(No) Firearms" policy:

David,

Your response to Norma was apparently forwarded only to the board.

I was the only nay vote on the board for this rule, and even an owner who doesn't support guns believed this unenforceable, and said so.

Mel was instructed to include all my comments as to why I was going to vote against this rule.

She chose not to do so on the draft that was published.

This is some of what I said, it doesn't cover all the points:

1. A rule should be in response to multiple violations or infractions, not based on a signal incident.

2. That the rule should be enforceable. This rule may provoke owners to become "policemen".

"Susan spoke against the proposed rule, noting that the Ranch has successfully managed without this rule for over 15 years. Susan further said that rules should be implemented for multiple violations and enforceable; this rule was based on one incident, handled peaceably by the Sheriff, it will be difficult to enforce, and could create further division between owners."

WARNING: Big Cats and cold weather

Mother Cougar and two cubs were spotted on the Ranch this week. Another cat was spotted yesterday at about 4:30 P.M., that's correct late after noon, this large healthy looking Cougar was sighted walking behind Cabin 333. A couple of our Employees hit a Cougar down by McNallys the other day on their way home, not to worry the Employees are OK and the cat ran off. A different Employee had a Cougar on their property in Weldon.

If you are planning a trip up to the Ranch, make certain you plan to stay in large groups, make certain you will not be wondering about after evening, and make certain you plan to stay with the kids!!

The Weather Service is announcing COLD weather arriving Thursday -- In other words Winter has returned!!!!

The Service is suggesting a possibility of rain and/or snow, but COLD. Please bring your warm clothing and don't forget your chains (just in case!!).

One more item. Please be extra careful, Forestry has already designated fire hazard as HIGH.

I trust if an owner or their child gets mauled or killed because the Board won’t allow us the means to defend ourselves, family survivors can use this email as evidence to own the Ranch?

Because I'm on my own, I'm just gonna have to keep doing what I've always done--take measures to protect my family and myself, and the hell with idiots and their rules.

How Many Checks Could a Gun Check Check...?

A bill that would let concealed-gun permit holders skip federal background checks when purchasing firearms died Tuesday after a half-dozen law enforcement officials and anti-gun activists testified against it...

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey called Kester's bill flawed, insisting it would have created loopholes and undermined current laws.

"When the concealed-gun law was first passed in the state, I don't think it was intended to be a gateway not to undergo a background check," Morrissey said.

The concealed gun permit process is a background check, you dolt.

I think I've found the answer to my question. You call it a "Morrissey."

Prime Minister Stephen Harper's promotion of a senior gun registry bureaucrat has put one of his MPs in a tough spot -- Gary Breitkreuz once blamed the civil servant for huge cost overruns.

"The transition team must have seen something under the hood that I didn't see," the Saskatchewan MP said yesterday of Maryantonett Flumian...

[Breitkreuz] charged that as project leader, [Flumian] had been personally responsible for mistakes with the gun program that ended up costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

"Didn't you feel some kind of responsibility to inform your political masters that this project could never be implemented, that all the firearms in Canada could probably never be registered, that the costs would skyrocket?" Breitkreuz asked her at the time.

I know the Peter Principle is when you promote someone to their level of incompetence. What do you call it when you break through that barrier and kick things to a level beyond?

A New York Minute

Yesterday, I said I'd look into whether or not Jeanine Pirro living with a convicted felon husband and several firearms was problematic in the eyes of the law. So far, the code I've been able to find hasn't addressed this specific set of circumstances, although I admit I'm far from versed at interpreting relevant Empire State Consolidated Penal Laws. The difficulty I'm having centers on "presumption of possession." Anyway, I'll continue seeing what I can find out about this--if anyone has any knowledge or leads, please feel free to comment.

While looking into this--as so often happens--another story is emerging that is indirectly related. Pull a loose thread and you never know what the unraveling will reveal. Not to be coy, but let me wait until I compile more (time-consuming) information before saying more...
