Weekend Update: Bathroom Cops, Gun Disablers and Sonia Sotomayor

I'd like to revisit three stories we've discussed recently and share some new information and observations. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column finds commonality in three seemingly unrelated stories: They all stink.

Also see alerts from Nevada and Oregon, and get the latest from my fellow GREs.

This Day in History: May 31

General Knox who has deservedly acquired the character of One of the most valuable Officers in the service, and who combating almost innumerable difficulties in the department he fills, has placed the Artillery upon a footing, that does him the greatest Honor. He, I am persuaded, would consider himself injured by an Appointment superseding his command, & would not think himself at liberty to continue in the service. Should such an Event take place, in the present state of things, there would be too much reason to apprehend a train of ills, and such as might convulse & unhinge this Important Department. [More]

The Voice of Wisdom

Hip-hop star Akon spoke to students in upstate New York about gun violence as part of a plea agreement for tossing a fan off stage at a concert nearby. [More]
Oh, teach us self-control, wise Akon! Maybe you can join T.I. for a rap duel about which one of you is the biggest authority suck-up once it's your phony badass on the line!

As Kurt notes about T.I., funny how such leniency was not extended to Wayne Fincher or David Olofson.

We're the Only Ones Priced Out of Your Range Enough

Round-the-clock police coverage would cost $500,000 per street...

Protecting one street for 24 hours would require five officers at an annual cost of about $100,000 per officer, he said. [More]
Of course, there's always a cheaper alternative--but somehow, the sight of armed men without uniforms fills the hearts of "Only Ones" and cud-chewers alike with terror...

Clearing Up Rumors

There actually was a U.S. Senate bill with that number that would have taxed handguns—nine years ago. It was introduced by anti-gun Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and it would have included handguns under the National Firearms Act’s tax and registration scheme. This has nothing to do with anyone’s Form 1040, of course. [More]
Well, I'm glad we finally got that cleared up...

We're the Only Ones Countering Terrorist Threats Enough

The Boston Police Department is preparing a plan to arm as many as 200 patrol officers with semiautomatic assault rifles, a significant boost in firepower that department leaders believe is necessary to counter terrorist threats, according to law enforcement officials briefed on the plan. [More]
"Terrorist threats"?

Yeah, you know....

I guess no one got the word out to the Boston "Authorized Journalists" about "Only Ones" and "patrol rifles"...

We're the Only Ones Paying You a Visit Enough

They say a cop armed with a machine gun walked into their apartment unannounced, not realizing it was the wrong place. And now they would like an apology. [More]
Hey, being an "Only One" is never having to say you're sorry.

Besides, they were probably following approved department policy.

We're the Only Ones Rewarded Enough

An internal memo that Eyewitness News obtained shows officers who have the least arrests and tickets get the worst assignments and the officers with the most arrests and tickets are rewarded. [More]
Securing the blessings of Liberty, "Only Ones"-style...

Obama Volunteers Vindicated

Rather conveniently, the Obama administration has asked that the cases against Mr. Jackson, two other defendants and the party be dropped. [More]
Whew!

Good thing for them they weren't "rightwing extremists."

We're the Only Ones Going Nuclear Enough

A statewide SWAT team exercise at a firing range on the secured grounds of a nuclear power plant in Southern Maryland was halted this month after stray bullets shattered glass and struck a command center near the plant's reactors, officials said yesterday. [More]
Anybody think they'd be so understanding if non-"Only Ones" had been responsible? Surely this would be looked at as "a 'training accident' and ... a combination of 'target placement [and] shooter error'"...?

We're the Only Ones Academic Enough

The FBI is investigating allegations of sexual misconduct at the MBTA’s police academy on Sea Street in Quincy. [More]
More negligent discharges?

C'mon, baby, you're the "Only One" for me...

Enter the Dragon--Thanks to Citizen Disarmament

It appears the only options for self defense are "throwing rocks and yelling 'Hoohh Hoohh'" and "carrying a 6-foot-long stick...for protection." [More]
What do Komodo dragons and Captain Kirk have to do with the right to keep and bear arms?

Today's Gun Rights Examiner column explains.

A Celebration of American Values

Steele: GOP Needs To Stop “Slammin’ And Rammin’” On Sotomayor...

“I’m excited that a Hispanic woman is in this position,” Steele said. [More]
You know, this "Hispanic woman":
She is one of only three federal appellate judges in America to issue a court opinion saying that the Second Amendment does not apply to states.
Not to be outdone:
McCain to back Meg Whitman for California governor
You know, this woman:
Whitman said she...believes tough gun laws like assault weapon bans and handgun control are appropriate for California.
Tell me which "American values" were being celebrated again? And what kind of "leadership"?

[Via Kurt Hofmann]

We're the Only Ones Wiped Out Enough

Boy finds officer's gun in bathroom [More]
Again?

So what's going to happen to the pooped-out "Only One"? For that matter, what's his name?

And they make it sound like he's doing us all some kind of favor by being "squeezably soft" instead of "abrasive"?

Oh, and aside from keeping the "who" out of her story, there's one other "good job" due to "Authorized Journalist" Erin McCarthy:

"9mm service revolver"? For the ISP?

And she used the term four times.

These are the pros from whom we get our information. is it any wonder the general public is so misinformed on the gun issue?

We're the Only Ones Fighting Fictitious Foes Enough

I found this while looking for something else. It's a few years old but still relevant:
State Weapons of Mass Destruction Team takes down fictitious terrorist group during state’s three-day emergency response exercise

Overnight drill demonstrates award-winning team’s ability to respond to terrorist threat [More]

Yep, Illinois residents should feel safe knowing their award-winning "Only Ones" are equipped to protect them from whatever imaginary threat arises.

And just look at how quickly they can respond to a non-existent threat:
Illinois’ State Weapons of Mass Destruction Teams can respond to a terrorist incident anywhere in the state within 60 to 90 minutes of notification.
Which explains why we'd want to keep Illinois residents helpless for that amount of time should a real incident ever unfold.

We're the Only Ones Who Don't Think It's a Good Idea Enough

Mayor Ron Littlefield says despite what the state decides, permitted guns should not be allowed in City Parks. By City Code, guns are already banned from City Parks and that includes people with a gun carry permit...

"We just don't think it is a good idea. Parks are for playing and for fun. If anyone needs to be armed out there, it only needs to be those that are enforcing the law." Mayor Littlefield said. [More]
Maybe this is why it's appropriate to post so many "Only Ones" stories today.

Feel free to educate this ignorant elitist: mayor@mail.chattanooga.gov

We're the Only Ones "Hey, Ladies, Wanna Party?" Enough

A late night accident on the Elkhart County-St. Joseph County line ended with a police car in pieces, and an Elkhart City police officer behind bars. Police arrested Cpl. Benjamin Kruszynski, 38, on a misdemeanor charge of Operating While Intoxicated. ..

Police also say Kruszynski wasn't alone in the squad car. A 43-year-old man and three 18-year-old females were also inside. [More]
I know, I know. It was a "mistake."

Honest, I did not set out today to do so many "Only Ones" stories. Sometimes, you just can't avoid them, there are so many.

And isn't that telling?

We're the Only Ones Simply Making a Mistake Enough

Accomack County Sheriff Larry Giddens says Deputy Jason Campbell was simply caught on tape making a mistake. He tells WAVY.com the young officer wasn't responding to a call and shouldn't have been speeding. The sheriff says Campbell has been disciplined. He wouldn't tell us Deputy Campbell's punishment. [More]
I'm sorry, but where I come from, a mistake is forgetting to carry the two. I just don't believe in honoring willfully bad behavior by dismissing it as an error.

Here's the uncut video of the chase in question. Be warned there is plenty of graphic language.

I sure wouldn't do this but I won't go so far as to dismiss this guy as nuts, like some are doing. If nothing else, he sure has guts.

Maybe the problem is most of us are too "sensible"...

We're the Only Ones in Charge of Children's Programming Enough

A sheriff's deputy brought a pornographic movie into the jail and showed it to several juvenile prisoners, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. [More]
Yeah, I guess it was "stupid on [your] part," you freakin' perverted loser, but that's just the half of it. Where do the "Only Ones" find these moral defects?

And why would anyone believe they are in any way superior to you and me?
