GRE Round Up for May 2

There's some good stuff being turned out by the Gun Rights Examiners. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

This Day in History: May 1

The Battle of Crooked Billet was a battle in the Philadelphia campaign of the American Revolutionary War fought on May 1, 1778 near Crooked Billet (present-day Hatboro), Pennsylvania. In the skirmish action, British forces under the command of Major John Graves Simcoe launched a surprise attack against Brigadier General John Lacey and three regiments of Pennsylvania militia, who were literally caught sleeping. The British inflicted significant damage, and Lacey and his forces were forced to retreat into neighboring Bucks County. [More]

We're the Only Ones Lying Enough

The jury found the officer, Patrick Pogan, 24, guilty of filing a criminal complaint that contained false statements concerning the cyclist, Christopher Long, including an assertion that Mr. Long knocked Mr. Pogan down by intentionally steering his bicycle into him. [More]

What did we just get done saying about lying?

The good thing about the dismissal on other charge is, had Long been the one to "recklessly assault" Pogan, I doubt he'd be convicted too. I'd actually bet on it.

We're the Only Ones Going Swimmingly Enough

Cobb police SWAT team member Sgt. Ken Reda, 37, and Shelley Powell, also 37, were both charged with making false statements and obstruction, allegedly lying about who was on the boat and the circumstances around the accident. [More]

That's the thing about tolerating a culture of lying. Those who can bring themselves to lie for you when your butt is on the line can also bring themselves to lie against you when it's their butts...

Hell of a thing, not knowing when the backup you're relying on, at times with your life, may turn on you and opt for self-preservation. Can you imagine dying and your supposed "friends" cover up the circumstances? If they'd do that low, what wouldn't they cover up, especially if someone who means nothing to them is involved?

Kind of an unintended consequence, wouldn't you say? The cost that comes permanently attached to the perceived benefits of the "Only Ones" culture...you can trust no one?

Talk about miserable. It's enough to give someone an attitude.

And to think how many juries automatically accept the word of testifying officers over suspects.

I wonder how many times these two have been called to testify...?

Randy Hillman: Oath Breaker

Randy Hillman, director of the Alabama Association of District Attorneys, opposed the bill and urged law-enforcement officers to do the same. In an e-mail to law-enforcement officers before the bill was passed he said, in part, “These weapons have no legitimate sporting function and will only serve to endanger the lives of law enforcement.” [More]
