A good rule of thumb, stupid: Survey the terrain before mounting an attack. Or not. You're easier to pick off this way. Not that you're smart enough to realize it or ethical enough to admit it.

It's instructive though, as to the character of this character. It is not concerned with the fact that its leaders are damn liars. It believes if someone else does, that makes it all OK.

I see the video has been removed and appears irretrievable, in the finest "Commissar Vanishes" tradition.

Looking for it, I did come across ugly hit piece comments from Fairfax "apologists" who can't refute reality, so instead resort to lying character attacks against the messenger, as has been their consistent MO.

And as we see from the quote link for this post, the hatred of all who point out the lack of clothes on the emperor, rather than face the truth and work toward freedom, is still all-consuming for some.

When I come across stories like this -- if I have time -- I look up the name and try to see if I can find an anti-gun connection -- just because it seems likely the sympathies would not be in line with my own, and you never know when a connection will be found.

In this case, the name with the word "gun" produced a match, albeit not for the same person, still... How did I miss this one back when it happened?

I'd also like to know what the numbers on the bird were and who was in it. And what the protocol is. And if, after someone with an interest in the matter removed the video from public view, any official inquiry will happen.

Let's see, the U.S. Army is a "primary user"...   and the post says this happened near Salt lake City... what base do you think this came in from?  You know, so they can be asked?  Maybe by someone with constituents and supporters?

And as long as I'm free-styling with impressions here, why is it the same feds who took punitive action against the Redskins think it's OK to use "Apache"? UPDATE 2: Without knowing, it appears to me the Apache crew were being friendly and giving the folks on the ground a thrill, rather than meaning to intimidate, and it seemed many on the ground got a kick out of it. That said, this is still unsettling to me.

Anon@9:58-- that's one reason I cited Cooper's rules, particularly all guns are always loaded and never point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy. We've documented lots of mishaps where "trained professionals" were surprised by an ND from an "unloaded" weapon.

I-594 Suggestion -- Feel Free to Weigh In

I received an email from reader Tionico:

It is my understanding that the federal regs regarding background checks and the NICS system might be useful to nullify this atrocious new law.

My understanding:

FFL's are REQUIRED to run the BGC when selling a gun from their inventory

No one except an FFL can run this check through the system
Many but not all FFL's will run the check for a customer who is receiving a gun being transferred from out of state. My understanding is that they are not REQUIRED to perform such NICS checks.

IF this is the case, then no FF: would be REQUIRED to run BGC on face to face transfers, as the new law wants done.
What would happen if every FFL in Washington STate would refuse to run face to face transfer background checks? Seems to me the idiots that drafted this initiave measure are conditioning the whole thing on VOLUNTARY performance of a task necessary to make this law work.

IF no FFL in Washington would perform the BGC then the law becomes a clearly unconstitutional infringement on the RIGHT to own and carry aobut arms, as guaranteed, and government have inposed an unlawful infringement upon that right.
WHAT would it take to get this idea going mainstream in this state? And promote the ocncept across the nation, as we KNOW Bloomie is already working on Oregon, Arizona, Nevada...... and likely has a few more states in his sights.

What do you think? Am I off base in my understanding of the law? I think its 18 USC dealing with BGC and NICS... but not sure where.

My reply:

Unless I'm missing something, offhand what I'd say would happen is all non-FFL transfers would stop except for the "illegal" ones. I'm not seeing how the antis wouldn't love that outcome, and what recourse gun owners would have except be captive to a system where they lose some price bargaining leverage by being forced to sell only to dealers, assuming an FFL wants what they're trying to dispose of and is prepared to offer top dollar.

I'm not a lawyer, but there could be anti-trust/collusion implications as well and then there would be the matter of dealing with FFLs who don't go along with the idea and offer BGCs anyway. I think you'd find gun owners divided on defending or condemning that.
