New Jersey dispute repeats familiar pattern of pushing out gun ranges
I speak from personal experience recalling a local range that was closed in Ohio after a development was built nearby, even though everyone – the developers, the realtors and the home purchasers, knew it was there and sold and bought property with that knowledge and with all required disclosures. And I’ve noted the same thing happening elsewhere. The same people would no doubt squawk like hell should the same government they’re turning to now decide their property would be more valuable as a township revenue generator, as happened in the notorious Kelo decision. [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes a phenomenon analogous to "progressives" moving to freer states and deciding the laws aren't restrictive enough, or foreigners moving to the U.S. and deciding we need to adopt their gun laws. If you move next to a gun range, why would you expect them to be the ones to go away? And what will you do when somebody with more clout decides there's a compelling overriding interest for infringing on your property rights?
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!
I don't normally post much to this blog on weekends, but this email notice is too critical not to stop everything else I'm doing and share:
What's not to like? Between my Bush socks and my Cheney hat, I can continue denying climate change to my heart's content and help establishment Republicans sell us all out on amnesty!
Cocoa?

‘Gun death’ at hands of police demonstrates public’s need for relevant data
“[I]t troubles me that there is no national database to track police shootings of civilians,” Franklin explains. “This means that we don’t know exactly how many people are killed by police each year. And lawmakers and other authorities don't have the information they need when making decisions about policy changes that could save lives.” [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes full visibility over agents of government killing citizens ought to be something we all agree on. That most in positions of influence aren't even curious, let alone demanding, tells us much.
The New Vichy Collaborators
I stand in solidarity with the artist Bardot on this point.* A government that would prosecute her for speaking the truth is every bit the herd of swine as the demonic Islamists who would see French (and all) women stoned to death if not submissive and veiled. [More]
A culture that does not fear, but rather respects and cherishes strong and independent women, encourages the unalienable right of both sexes to refuse to be victims -- against individual or organized predators, including the official and unofficial kinds. So naturally, the New Vichy sellout traitors punish that, as well.
And yo, Bernard: Brûle en enfer.
* No, of course not on every point. And calling for a government empowered to ban what she doesn't agree with contributes to the hoist on her own petard situation she now finds herself in.

Cartoon demonization of gun owners recalls an earlier target
In any case, the de-humanizing and demonizing of gun owners is calculated, and it recalls an earlier time when another group that found itself the target of disarmament and worse, also found itself portrayed in such an ugly manner, by those sharing ideological commonalities with modern statists. That Nazi political cartoons were used to promote public acceptance for attacking Jews is a matter of shameful historical record. That modern day “progressives” continue that hateful practice is a matter of shameful documented fact. [More]My latest JPFO Alert notes those who have mastered the time-proven technique of dehumanizing a segment of society they wish to eliminate.

Great timing, Ivan. I don't suppose you'd like to come help me clear my driveway for the fourth damn time this week? Now, before things drop to sub-zero again, while the sun is still out and we're all the way up to 10º?
