We're the Only Ones With Prosecutors Tripping All Over Themselves to Give Us a Pass Enough

A federal judge in Rome on Thursday accepted the guilty plea of a former GBI agent who illegally sold 81 guns that prosecutors said had been confiscated by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office...

Officials said he did not violate his oath of office because he was not acting as an agent at the time...

Prosecutors did not indict Garmon because he agreed to expedite the process...

Prosecutors told Judge Harold L. Murphy they would seek the lightest sentence for the lawman...
Hey, why the hell not? After all, he is an "Only One."

A few things here don't make sense to me:

1) How can one be a GBI agent and FFL dealer? Are there no policies or laws forbidding this due to possible conflicts of interest?

2) There's no mention of investigation into the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office. Exactly how did the Sheriff's office come to transfer 81 firearms to a lone GBI agent? What was the reason?

3) "Officials said he did not violate his oath of office because he was not acting as an agent at the time he illegally sold the guns..." Oh, so the moment he clocked out and put his badge away, the LE oath isn't in effect? So does the Hippocratic Oath not apply when a doctor leaves the hospital and removes his white coat and stethoscope?

You're missing the true beauty of the argument:

1) My oath as a GBI agent says I won't break the law.

2) Selling guns illegally is breaking the law.

3) Therefore, when I'm selling guns illegally I'm not acting as a GBI agent.

4) Therefore I'm not breaking my oath as a GBI agent.

Brilliant, truly brilliant!

I wonder if we can use this same sort of logic in our lives....

This is becoming sickeningly typical. How the hell do we reverse this trend?

When I first came upon David's blog and the "only ones", I found the whole series so funny. But as the relentless ammount of "only ones" stories piles up, I find I am filling up with rage. Their arrogance knows no bounds.

Isn't it amazing how these intrepid journalists never seem to question these stories? Doesn't it even occur to them to invesitgate this trend of LEOs breaking the law and then being treated more leniently than anyone else could possibly hope to be?

Wouldn't it be something if a major news network ran that story? Heck, they don't even have to do any research, just pop along here.

I wonder what the reaction of the average Amnerican would be to major coverage of these stories, day in and day out on Fox or CNN?
