What Does It Say About a Government...

...that trusts foreign powers more than its own citizens?

And what does it say about citizens who put up with--and in many cases demand it?

I look for a story like this any day: "Nigel Smallfaucet, an engineer at the plant that builds the state of the art Typhoon fighter jet, was arrested yesterday for possession of a pointed stick in his home. Smallfaucet explained that it was the pencil he uses to do the crossword in the Times, but authorities determined that it exceeded the maximum legal length."

Sounds like the Arabs are planning a party.

I kind of like the idea that arms sales to foreign governments should be completely banned. Arms sales to foreign individuals should be okay provided that the sale is not just a "back door" way of selling to the foreign government.

Not a bad idea for sales to the American governments either: the sale is to the government employee who becomes the owner of the weapon -- even if the government pays for it and even if the person leaves government service. I.e., the government should not own any arms; people employed by the government should have the ownership -- including the military as relates to "small" arms.

bob: it's a whole lot easier to work out if you just eliminate government from the equation entirely. for example: ban government participation in the marketplace, entirely.

now I like THAT idea. Just think how little tax money they'd need...no $6000 toilets or whatever the hell it was.

Of course that would leave them with lots more time to dream up control schemes....
