Your place in the scheme of things explained ... besides, you don't know what kind of  day he's had.  And he wants to get home at the end of his shift.

I knew there was an explanation for all the accounts posted here and here.

This reminds me of a dark, sexist "joke" I heard years ago:

Q: What do battered women have in common?
A: [Through gritted teeth] They just don't listen.

That in turn reminds me of who is for remedying that situation -- and who is against it.
