Keyes to the Kingdom

On that account, secure borders and the lawful regulation of movement and immigration across them are not selfish aims we pursue only to serve ourselves. [More]
Yeah, you forgot about our posterity. Check the preamble.  Your goals aren't there.
For we are bound, by our vocation as a nation, to lift up that “lamp beside the golden door,” on behalf of decent human beings...
Bound by what, as defined by you?  Got an article or a section number for that? If you're going to impose obligations on us -- on me -- I need to know the scope of the sacrifice you require of me and of my children.

And a morality-based admissions policy...? What's the bar? What will the likely political results be? Got a litmus test for "decency," one that won't be revised for party advantage, challenged in courts, held up for years and guaranteed to do nothing but stall things until it's too late?

Again, I still have doubts about Trump and his motives, but they sure beat the politically-appointed diplomat's "plan," and without much greater elaboration, his "solution" appears naive, unworkable and ultimately suicidal.

And sorry, if citing Ronald Reagan doesn't impress me all that much...
