Obviously, if a manufacturer is out there cranking out poorly designed and constructed junk that blows up in your hand or fails to perform when you need it, no one wants to give the guy a pass, including (and especially) gun rights advocates. Similarly, if a car maker puts a model on the streets that bursts into flames as the steering wheel locks and the brakes fail, you’re not going to find a coalition of motorists clamoring to absolve them of all responsibility. But people would righteously object to holding automakers responsible for criminal abuses. If someone steals your car and plows into a school bus, who in their right mind would demand going after the manufacturer’s or the dealer’s deep pockets? What about if someone gets liquored up and ends up smashing into oncoming traffic or running over pedestrians? Should we start bankrupting shareholders and frog-marching CEOs? [More]
