If they do run the quisling, I would throw the seat to the Dems, even if they run a Bloomberg dream candidate. The hurt that will cause cannot possibly be as dangerous, as deep and as longstanding as giving the Repubs confidence they can betray their core with impunity.  And the "moderates" who insist on a GOP "win" for more trivial reasons can just feel the pain until such time as they commit to doing the right thing, if not out of principle then out of self-preserving pragmatism.
