Not sure what to make of the statement "The shotguns were replaced by AR-15 semiautomatic rifles," but it's noteworthy that they're "semiautomatic rifles" when in police hands, but icky assault weapons when in anyone else's hands...
There were a lot of M1A rifles handed out to various police agencies after 9/11. Dealing in ones stolen from a police agency should bring in the Feds, since those rifles are capable of full auto.
More importantly is the use of the language "semi-automatic". It is being used to push a negative meaning so that eventually people will equate "semi automatic" with "Big black scary rifle". As MOST weapons are technically "Semi-automatic" this assault on language is most important.
Soon "semi automatic" will be the same as"assault weapon" in the lexicon of the gun controllers and the idiots will all call for a ban on "semi automatics".. for the children...
