Had that conversation with a former coworker who argued against "high-capacity" (standard) magazines on rifles and the supposed ability of an AR-15 to fire 600 rounds a minute. Informed him that the rate of fire was an extrapolation based on "spray-and-pray" style rapid fire from a single magazine and was not realistic. Then I posed a scenario to him:
It's 03:00. Three thugs have just kicked in the door to your house. Their intent is to murder you and repeatedly rape your wife and daughters, finally murdering them and fleeing.
My questions are these:
1) How many mag changes do you want to have to effect under stress to have a reasonable chance of surviving the encounter.
2) How many seconds do you want to have to wait between each shot? What's a "reasonable restriction" on your rate of fie in those circumstances?
I did not get an answer and he changed the topic.
