Actually, the Swiss Guard are equipped with modern weapons, same SIGs as used by the Swiss Army, according to Wikipedia. (Although between the world wars, they were equipped with possibly the worst pistol ever, the Dreyse.) The guys in quaint uniforms with halberds and pikes are just for show.
