If I had to guess, I'd speculate it's the same reason they refused to hear election challenges-- fear that a truth-based ruling would result in burning cities...

Someone needs to clue them in that someone, somewhere has already decided that America's cities need to burn, and has already taken steps to make it so. Note that Portland has seen almost nightly violent protests for over a year and many other cities nationwide burned to some extent all last year.
IOW, SCOTUS is going to see burning cities no matter what they do. And rightly or wrongly, some will blame them on SCOTUS. They may as well do the right thing and have done with it.
January 6th was proof positive that only when the burning comes to DC will any of them care.
