As it becomes clearer that we are indeed becoming two nations sharing a common border, at least for the time being, then the answer to your question becomes clearer as well.
While they are a threat to one of those nations, they are at the same time a guarantee of the ascendance of the other.
And that, boys and girls, is why the border is wide open, the laws enforcing controlled immigration are being ignored, and those once tasked with enforcing those laws are being vilified.
