I'm beginning to believe we are seeing a great sorting going on in the US. Blue states are becoming more blue, and red states are becoming more red. This happened in my profession with the American Medical Association. When I was a young physician, something like 70% of physicians belonged to the AMA. Then, year by year, it became more statist and Progressive. And, year by year, people who didn't agree voted with their feet. The people that were left behind were self-selected to support that agenda, and moved further to the left, which drove even more people off. But... that was fine with the people who stayed, who were even *more* in the majority. Now, only about 12% of physicians out of traning belong to the AMA, which is made up almost exclusively of big-city socialist and academic types. And every year, the AMA lurches into positions that are less and less representative of the average practicing physician. I see the same thing happening here. Washington state, California, Oregon, etc. will drive out conservative and moderate people, and the only ones that are left will be increasingly homogeneous and increasingly woke.
