Nigerian people caught in perfect storm of tyranny and terrorism

"[C]ivilians are not allowed to possess machine-guns, military rifles and handguns … private possession of semi-automatic assault weapons [and] private possession of handguns (pistols and revolvers) is prohibited," the site advises. Add to that licensing, background checks and registration for what they are allowed to own, a prohibition on concealed carry and stiff criminal penalties for gun law violations, and Nigeria is one of those places where the "law-abiding" are at extreme disadvantage. My latest JPFO Alert shows readers what happens to children when all the "common sense gun safety" measures Demanding Moms shriek for here are matters of settled law. Curious, the common people who pay the price for such disastrous edicts are now asking for guns...

Connecticut rights group joins in brief for state gun law challenge

The brief, filed by a team of attorneys that includes noted Second Amendment lawyer, scholar and author Stephen P. Halbrook, argues that Connecticut’s ban on so-called “assault weapons“ and standard capacity ammunition magazines violates the Second Amendment, and that “provisions of [the] ban are unconstitutionally vague.” [More]
This afternoon’s Gun Rights Examiner report rings the bell on round two of a title fight.

'Liberal' gun group member proposes online campaign to #EndGunShaming

Having had time to think more on this, some other thoughts now occur to me. First, the shame is not on gun owners, it is on the people stooping to insults and crudities. I refuse to feel shame for some obnoxious troll's many character defects. And why engage with someone essentially screaming insults? You would ignore and put distance between yourself and someone doing that in the real world (keeping the option of defending yourself open if need be), so why not practice the same prudent discipline in the virtual one? Today’s Gun Rights Examiner report notes it’s just like Opposite Day “progressives” to expect us to be ashamed by their offensive behavior.

Why should he care, when all most of his critics do is gripe in internet comments, enabling him to "cruise... to victory ... easily beating two tea party challengers"?

Hey, what's the deal here? I thought this blog was about guns.

I haven't seen the NAGR fundraising note that this is responding to--a link would have helped. [SEE UPDATE TWO, BELOW]

Rhetoric aside, there is one point that needs to be made in re background checks, from no less a source than the feds: "Effectiveness depends on the ability to reduce straw purchasing, requiring gun registration and an easy gun transfer process."

So this isn't about siding with either group, or pointing out flaws, or questioning motives, or effectiveness, or tactics, or anything else--plenty of other places will host that conversation. The discussion I'm inviting here centers on that core point.

Is it debatable?

Seeing as how NRA, quite properly, assessed campaign finance limits were well within the scope of that "single issue," perhaps they're ready next time to give Wayne's "true champion of the Second Amendment" the "F" he deserves.

And That Goes DOUBLE for Politicians Who Don't Back "Common Sense Gun Laws"

We're the Only Ones Honored Enough

“One is Memorial Day,” the Ohio Republican said. “The other is today, when we honor federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.” [More]
I was wondering why they were at half-staff.

And no, there are no plans for a "National Victims of Only Ones Memorial Day."

Why not?

Not of the Body?

So, I have it on good authority from a Master-at-Arms Senior Chief (MACS) buddy of mine that the author of this piece (a radar technician) was neither a SAMI (Small Arms Marksmanship Instructor) nor was he a base police officer, both of which are what he claims. He was an Navy AUXILIARY security force member (a rent-a-cop) and he was a line coach, which for those of you who are not familiar, means he was a safety supervisor that stands behind troops while they qualify on their weapons to help ensure no safety violations are committed. He didn't teach ANYTHING. [More]
It would be illustrative if it is true, and we need to emphasize at this point we've hardly seen enough evidence to overcome reasonable doubt, but my bottom line: Don't matter to me none-- I've already decided.

He could have been the biggest hero in the military, and I'm reminded that at one time, this guy was no slouch himself.

FRIDAY UPDATE: Just got my second comment that the FB page has been removed.  It still works for me, as evidenced by the screen shot I took one minute ago.
