I suspect that the youth of today would be flabbergasted that the youth of my time (late '50s, early '60s) were subjected to intensive, organized indoctrination against the perceived social threat of that era: conformity! "Going along with the crowd" was seen as the root cause of materialism, "organization man," delinquency, drug use, and premarital sex. The mantra was, "think for yourself!" Boy, did those lessons boomerang on The Man when the late '60s arrived. Looks like he learned from it.
