I think many of them actually do. At least as they imagine those systems to be. But they also always imagine themselves to be in the new ruling class. But as they should have learned from numerous examples, those at the top of the institutions of higher learning are the first to be culled to make way for the new order.
It all depends on what the meaning of "better dead than Red" is.
