Frankly Speaking, Mayor Jackson, You're a Liar

Mayor Frank Jackson has called for the Ohio General Assembly to pass a law banning anyone under the age of 21 from possessing a firearm...

"Right now, if a young person was walking down any Ohio street brandishing an assault weapon, the police could not arrest him for that," said Mayor Jackson.

As long as you're playing the demographics card, Frank, care to narrow it down to that segment of people under 21 where the overwhelming number of "cross-fire gun battles" originate from?

No? Too politically untouchable for you?

OK, then I've got an easier task. Do you have any "young persons" in your family, mayor?

Give one of them an "assault weapon" and have them walk down the streets "brandishing an assault weapon" in the neighborhood where you're performing your latest blood dance. Don't tell the police you're doing this, because we want the experiment to reflect an influence-free outcome.

If you actually believe this latest line of crap you're getting the "authorized journalists" to parrot unchallenged for you, you should have no problem walking the walk--or letting a young loved one do it for you.

Or forget young people. Dress down to where you're not easily recognized and try it yourself--and don't tell the responding officers who you are. And don't forget to--what was the word you deliberately chose?--brandish.

If you're not willing to do this because you think there might be some life-endangering risk involved, how dare you risk the lives of young adults under 21 by coercing them into defenselessness--ultimately under force of arms?

"Why I moved my family the hell out of Cleveland," reason #476B.

And if regionalism starts to gain traction, I'll be moving my family the hell out of Cuyahoga County.

Classic. Can't tend to his own knitting, so he's going to tend to everyone's.

Actually (and sorry for the consecutive comments), this is theater (has next to no chance of passing) and the supporters admitted as much.

But I thunk 'er over this morning. IANAL, but 18-year-olds can enter into contracts, marry without parental consent, join the armed forces, etc., etc. The existing gun laws imposing special limits on under-21 adults (along with the alcohol laws, while we're at it) seem, to this amateur observer, to raise an "equal protection" question. How does one impose a law upon one segment of legal law-abiding adults without running afoul of equal protection?

Dunno. I wrote a letter to Dennis Hastert asking similar questions once--never got an answer. I understand Franky's bill would exempt "Only Ones" under 21, so apparently their extra-special super abilities over ordinary mortals start at a young age.

What would I do if I saw a young person walking down the street 'brandishing' an assault rifle??

How about: 'Ask him where he bought it and how much he paid for it...'.

I'm a cheap bastard, and guns can get expensive, so I'm always looking to save some $$$!

I think councilman The Rev. DeBose might not be as onboard as he would have previously. It will be interesting to see if thinks only he and his wife deserve the ability to self defend.

As a service to the readers, I offer this excerpt from the currently unwritten Disarmer-English / English-Disarmer Dictionary.

Assault Weapon:
1. Any auto-loading rifle made in the last two centuries.
2. Anything that is larger than a handgun, and has polymer furniture, or dark paint.

Brandishing:
1. Having any part of the body in contact with a weapon.

...in case these come up...

Sawed-off shotgun:
1. Any shotgun with a barrel shorter than a vaulting pole.

Street-sweeper:
1. Any slide-action or auto-loading shotgun without wood furniture.

Saturday Night Special:
1. Any revolver that is smaller than a Smith and Wesson N-Frame.

Children:
1. Persons younger than 26 years of age. (Formerly 25 years, 24 years, 21 years, 18 years and 16 years of age.)

Be on the lookout for "gunreform". I have not yet been able to deduce the meaning, but apparently everyone wants it.

Since I am under 21 the last time I checked federal law, we aren't even allowed to own a so-called "assault weapon." We are not allowed to even own a rifle with a detachable magazine unless it was made before 1945 (which by the way there are only three and they are expensive. The Tokarev SVT-40 is one which I own and is very expensive) so how the hell can we get one if we aren't even legally allowed to get one. Oh wait there is the SKS that politicians call "assault weapons" but they don't have detachable magazines unless they are special Chinese ones and we aren't even allowed to have those. So this mayor was must be very, very ignorant of federal law.

It is interesting to note that the two fellows in the shoot-out that allowed a stray bullet to kill the girl were Fellons so it was already illegal for them to even touch guns, much less own them. They probably just bought their guns on the black market or stole them. Banning guns from law abiding citizens under 21 (criminals are already banned) is completely idiotic. Way to go Mayor Jackson, you really ought to hire a 5th grader to help you make your policy proposals, so that they can make some sense. Mayor Jackson certainly is NOT smarter than a 5th grader.
