Another One Bites the Dust

Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford arrested on federal charges
What is it with these guys...?

I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter

[O]ne of my first concerns involved police arresting gun owners who open carry--a legal practice that can still result in dangerous encounters with law enforcement officers who may not know that (or may know and act anyway).

Here's today's Gun Rights Examiner column. Tell a friend.

We're the Only Ones Straight and True Enough

"It's purely an issue of safety," Woznick said. He said he isn't able to test residents "to make sure that their aim is straight and true."
We all know average citizens are just too incompetent to safely handle dangerous and powerful assault air rifles. Besides, with all the documentation we've amassed here at WarOnGuns, what kind of squirrely person wouldn't place total faith in the "Only Ones" to protect their nuts?

You gotta wonder who would know if somebody just took care of the nuisance by themselves on the sly...

A Modern Muster

[Use BugMeNot to bypass site registration]
The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials.
I can't help but wonder what kind of paranoid fool/disloyal American would even worry about that. Besides, if you really want to help, just go about your business and muster on over to the mall.

It Would Be Like Atlas... I Dunno... Shrugging or Something...

Saying Texas firearm laws are overly restrictive, a group of gun advocates is lobbying state lawmakers to permit wearing handguns in plain view.
Y'know, if everybody just did it, what could they do about it?

Our problem is that nobody will--because they know they'd stand alone--and even be condemned by the majority of their fellow gun owners for making "us" all look bad.

This isn't to put down the open carry activists--they're doing what they can with what they've got.

You Didn't Say "Mother May I?"

Burress, the police said, did not have a permit to carry a gun in New York City. A law enforcement official said that the gun, a Glock semiautomatic pistol, was recovered at Burress’s home in Totowa, N.J.
How did NYC get authority to do that?

And he could still "still face felony charges that could result in up to seven years in prison" even without intent to harm anyone?

Bloomberg and his New York "Only Ones."

Did I mention I don't think we use the term "Nazi" anywhere nearly often enough?

Getting the Nazis the Voters Deserve

Sen. Jenny Oropeza, who has already passed a bill that bans smoking in a car with children, is now trying to extend the ban to the state's parks and beaches.
See, litter laws aren't enough. They never are. If you don't behave in ways we don't approve, well, you'll either bend to our will or we'll ultimately kill you if you defy us hard enough.

And naturally, Jenny doesn't like guns, either.

Oh, and since we're at the beach, all you Godwin's Law nazis (who invariably misinterpret its meaning to discourage use of the term) can go pound sand. The beneficiaries of not calling Nazis Nazis are Nazis, and when you consider the word is derived from "national socialist," I don't think we use it anywhere near enough.

The First Thing

[T]he first thing I want to know is who the hell gave Macy's the authority to lock people in their store?
Point taken, but actually, the first thing I'd want to know is who the hell does Macy's have who could stop me if I decided to use all means at my disposal to go through their frickin' glass door?

Early Warning

I have this quote direct from Sarah Brady in a letter addressed to me:

"On Election Day, we helped deliver a strong victory for President-Elect Barack Obama and Vice-President-Elect Joe Biden. They will be two of the most powerful allies we have ever had."

From This Point On...

...we go nowhere unarmed.
Everyone realizes we live in a dangerous world, right?

What McAuliffe Said...

...about Braggadocio and Commies...

"Courageously Evaded"

The family of Andreas Liveras, 73, the only known British fatality, told The Sunday Telegraph how he courageously evaded gunmen for eight hours in the Taj Mahal Palace hotel as he frantically tried to reassure his family that he was safe.
The irony should not go unnoticed.

This Day in History: December 1

The left-hand side of this broadsheet prints a December 1, 1775 resolution by the Massachusetts Provincial Congress mustering the militia “without Delay…to serve in the American Army.” Five columns of enlistment quotas, broken down by county and town, follow. The right-hand side prints an enlistment agreement, followed by the signatures of the eight enlistees.
