We're the Only Ones Off Target Enough

Police say an off-duty police officer in South Florida fired at charging pit bull, but missed the dog and grazed a woman's neck. [More]
And we don't know what will happen to the dog? He didn't have to kill it?

You mean it wasn't all that serious?

And afterward, the dog was:
"wagging his tail, wide-eyed at all the people - cops, fire-rescue, animal control officers - gathered in the parking area out front. He was happily oblivious...
And a corroborating witness said:
The dog didn't show no aggression but he decided to pull out the gun and shoot the dog...
I can understand being cautious around off-leash dogs. Doubly so when a child is involved.

Still, I can't help but wonder if a non-"Only One" missed his target and struck a neighbor if the burning questions would be whether or not we violated policy and how soon we'd be returning to work.

As an aside, notice how the "Authorized Journalist" in the second linked article called it a "pit bull-type dog"? Is that anything like an "assault-style weapon"?

We're the Only Ones Resigned Enough

Two white police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a 73-year-old black man in northern Louisiana have resigned from the force. [More]
Not to be confused with what would happen to two black men involved in the fatal shooting of a white "Only One"...unless anybody seriously thinks we'd just now be getting to the impact on employment stage of things.

We're the Only Ones Crashing Enough

Four Hollywood police officers are accused of faking a crash report - and it was caught on an officer's dashboard camera..

Authorities say Francisco rear-ended a car in February and then arrested the driver on drunken driving charges. [More]

See how the "Only Ones" automatically assumed a mere citizen is just something to be used and discarded?

That all four of them so readily conspired in this could severely shake my faith in the "few bad apples" theory if I didn't want to believe in it so desperately...

UPDATE: John G tells us charges against the woman have been dropped.

That really seems to irk a few of the dimmer commentators...

The Comedy Genius of Dermot Ahern

The act bans handguns in Ireland... [More]
Ready for the punch line?
Mr Ahern says the legislation is designed to halt the emergence of a gun culture in Ireland.
How does he keep a straight face?

When Toy Guns are Outlawed

Blaming technology for human misbehavior is morally misguided. Banning toys and then believing you're fighting for safety or against crime is just stupid. [More]
A-yup.

That's Andrew Cuomo for ya...

Forget it Jake, it's Chi-Town

At least 15 people were wounded in shootings on the South and West Sides Tuesday night and early this morning, according to police. [More]
I know what you're thinking, and believe me, it was my first concern, too, so I'm pleased to report:

Yes, he's all right, and was well-protected and never in any danger.

Thank goodness!

We're the Only Ones Earth-Moving Enough

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, his office began receiving reports of farm equipment thefts including tractors, bulldozers and Bobcats throughout the parish last November. [More]
And the "Only One" is "a 14-year veteran"? I wonder how soon into his career he realized it gave him certain tactical advantages ? I wonder if anyone who would engage in such acts could so compartmentalize their life that criminal behavior wouldn't manifest itself in other ways, and if that went unnoticed or just unreported?

Claiming Luggage While Transporting Guns Can Put Travelers at Risk

[S]ay something compels you to claim your luggage at a layover airport: perhaps your flight was rerouted, or perhaps there was a delay and they're going to shuttle you to a hotel or an alternate terminal... Don't assume it's safe to claim your suitcase. That could put you in a world of hurt. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column looks at another way gun owners trying to obey conflicting laws are entrapped and persecuted. Also, meet a village idiot, airdrop an "Only One," and get a guide to educate your favorite "Authorized Journalist"--assuming they're interested in actually knowing something about guns, as opposed to counting on reader ignorance that assumes they do.

Tell a friend? Seriously?
