There's a Word for That

Trump: 'Take the guns first, go through due process second' [More]
That's called "tyranny." No prominent Democrat would be allowed to get away with saying that without enraging every gun owner rights advocate out there.

You don't have enough enemies who want to see you impeached and even imprisoned?

I strongly suggest you rethink what you just blurted out and then explain yourself in detail and apologize for misspeaking, because if that wasn't just running your mouth before thinking it through, you've just put yourself on equal footing with the worst of them.

Due process as an afterthought, Mr. President? How about if we have Mueller do that with you?

Dicking with Dick's

I just had a thought on my Dick's Sporting Goods piece. I'm not a lawyer, so bear with me on this.

If they refuse to sell rifles to citizens under 21 where it is lawful to do so, how is that not challengeable in court? Protected classes included things like race, sex, religion, "orientation" and age, right? They couldn't refuse to sell you a rifle because you're a minority or a woman or Muslim or a gay, could they?

Any lawyers out there care to share your expertise, or maybe just cut to the chase and find plaintiffs to initiate a class action lawsuit?

UPDATE: Prof. Volokh says "Depends..."

From the Fine Folks Who Prefer Murdered Children Over Lawfully-Armed Citizens

In Oath Keepers Webinar, Student Gun Control Activists Are ‘The Enemy’ [More]
I'm glad I didn't talk to her when she solicited comments from me. She's clearly an apparatchik with no regard for understanding readily findable reality and truth ("militia group ... anti-government" ) or context.

And goddamn right. Anyone who wants to disarm the American people is an enemy. Be interesting to see what all those smug superior beings would be prepared to do if a need to defend themselves ever arose.

And keep those comments classy, progtards.  I especially like the one making fun of me for having pneumonia.

One School Shooting Killed Hundreds Despite Gun-Grabber Wish List of Edicts in Place

And the Fix Is In

Couldn't get four to agree to hear the obvious, huh? [More]

Good thing this has absolutely nothing to do with that "single issue."

Isn't that right, everyone with a voice who represents himself as "pro-gun" and has deliberately stayed silent on this?

State of Disunion – Besieged on All Sides: Outline for My Portion of Tonight’s Webinar

Oath Keepers will be hosting a webinar tonight on “The Florida School Shooting and How to Counter Renewed Efforts to Disarm Us.” I’ll be joining author Matt Bracken and Stewart Rhodes tonight at 9 Eastern. These are the topics I intend to cover, presented here to give those undecided on participating an idea of information to be shared, and to keep things organized so that webinar attendees can follow along. [More]
I hope you can join us.

Slow Going Ahead

After a week of a steadily worsening cough to the point that I'd have to fight blacking out (along with plenty of other symptoms), I bit the bullet and went to urgent care yesterday in the hopes of scoring some antibiotics and prescription cough syrup. They checked me into their emergency wing, hooked me up to an IV and ran a battery of tests, including EKG and x-rays.

Pneumonia.  They wanted to transfer me to the hospital. I persuaded them to release me and let me self-monitor at home with the promise that if conditions worsen I won't be stupid, so here I am with those antibiotics and that prescription cough syrup I went in for in the first place. There's a whole story about U.S. health care costs, including malpractice-driven overcautiousness in here.

Bottom line -- Drained and struggling to focus though I may be, I've got over a hundred emails waiting for me, most with tip links. I'm not going to get to most of them. And just because I don't do much blogging on weekends doesn't mean there isn't plenty going on behind the scenes. This weekend there wasn't, and I'm in a hole.

My goal today is to prep for tonight's Oath Keepers webinar (register here) and to get another AmmoLand article done, and to do another article for each by month's end, at which point my GUNS Magazine "Rights Watch" column deadline hits. All without overtaxing myself and getting plenty of rest and fluids.

So if you're one of those who took the time to find a story of interest and send me the link, thank you. Just please understand if I can't get to it and if my priorities over the next few days preclude many tip responses.

Raising Rifle-Buying Age to 21 Leads to Inconvenient Truth

But what these examples of past freedoms enjoyed by young people throughout our history prove beyond any doubt is that we, who they furiously demand to disarm, could be trusted with guns when we were young, as could those who raised us. [More]
Republicans either need to stop being useful idiots or else admit the false “conservative” wing is — and has been all along — a controlled opposition con job.

Damn. Get rid of the belly-bar safety shutoff and I used to have just the mill for that in the old pharm rubber department I used to be foreman of back in the late Seventies. And if it were?

As for being so specific about location, that's not the kind of personal location information that should be volunteered by the thoughtless Seattle Times. It took all of 90 seconds to get a street view and an apartment number. No one is "required" to carry a gun.  The Founders put in a militia duty exemption for those "conscientiously scrupulous against bearing arms."

What you want to do is impose your choice on everyone, that is, to take away the choice of those who would exercise their fundamental rights under force of state arms.

So-Called ‘Conservatives’ Need to Stop Offering Gun-Grabbers Concessions

I guess it’s no surprise to see NRO offering a sop, as if that will satisfy those who’ve made it clear they want it all. National Review founder William F. Buckley didn’t really get the “shall not be infringed” thing either, on either prior restraints or on militia-suitable arms. I believe market opportunities will attract entrepreneurs.

Also, I'm not certain what kind of collusion is allowed under existing regulatory frameworks they all must abide by.  A coordinated closing off of the entire market would seem to invite that other "progressive" policy, antitrust laws.  And there's always the boycott factor, especially if all do not go along. Not to mention political pressure. The reenactment was to include firing black powder muskets as a part of the history lesson, but the group was told that’s against the rules. According to a city law which says you cannot “Use, maintain, possess, fire, or discharge any firearm.” [More]
Yep -- and it's ironic, considering the Red Coats being the "Only Ones" authorized to bear arms was what gave us something to reenact in the first place. Under "Park Regulations":
9.36.061 Firearms, air guns, and other weapons. No person other than peace officers in the discharge of their duties shall use, maintain, possess, fire, or discharge any firearm, air gun, spring gun, bow and arrow, slingshot, or any other weapon potentially dangerous to wildlife or human safety, except in areas, at times, and under conditions designated by the Director for such use.
It could be that there are certain lawfully-enacted steps that must be followed for rule waivers, including notification and public comment periods, and that safety and liability considerations would need to be satisfied. That said, if the park district has known about this since "late last year," there's not much reason why that couldn't have been worked out by now except bureaucrats behaving like bureacrats.

My guess is if they really wanted to, they could have.

So who is "the Director"? And which council members have not been working to resolve this?

Any chance they could be "incentivized"?

Kasich’s Renewed Betrayal Foreshadows Establishment GOP Retreat on Guns

In Kasich’s case, it was no surprise.  As a congressman, he was one of 46 Republican members who helped pass the 1994 semi-auto ban by a narrow 216-214 vote margin, putting him on a first-name basis with Bill Clinton.  Then, when running for governor and needing the votes, he “convinced” (a more than willing) NRA to change his “F” to an “A,” paying them back with “good” gun actions as long as he felt pandering to Ohio gun owners was in his political interests.
