The Wrong Question

A relatively famous person in the gun owner rights movement recently criticized this outcome and asked how we can stop illegal straw purchasers if we allow such releases.

In other words, he supports the Brady Act and "background checks," and believes  gun owner control edicts actually work. And has no problem with the fedgov assuming powers nowhere delegated to it in the Constitution. And doesn't really believe in "shall not be infringed."

I guess I really am in the extreme. Were it up to me, guns would be freely traded, and anyone who couldn't be trusted with one would have the appropriate custodial arrangement.

An Unvarnished Opinion

Well, naturally I wish he'd actually read the article, but aside from that, is he really that far off?  I guess I'm more than jaded by the number of readers who won't even lift a finger to share a link let alone kick in a few bucks for something righteous when I ask them nicely. I continue to wonder how many actually do anything besides post "Molon Labe!" comments, and what they'd do if real and prolonged risks and sacrifices were required. And yeah, how many of us are physical or skill equals, let alone training and equipment matches for warriors? And more than that, how many have the mindset and the will? That's not something most will know until they stare down the beast.

Them's fightin' words? There are hard truths we all need to face, even if telling them to us this way is rude and provocative, and riles us. I suspect it's partly meant to.

It will not be the fictional romantic adventure. And more than one of our stalwarts will find themselves making choices they would disparage as the acts of cowards from their present position of comfort and security.

That said, I have to believe I'm on the winning side.  When I no longer do is the day I hang this up.

He got lucky. Handing his gun off to the clerk was stupid. As was the "warning shot." And as was the desire "to wound." But there's no arguing -- despite all that -- his gun made all the difference.

Now I hope he goes out and gets some training, because life-and-death situations rarely prove so forgiving of so many fundamental errors.

Case in point: the "law" saying the perp was a prohibited person.

Of Course You Realize This Means War

If truth can be said, President Trump has declared a war far more dangerous to himself than if he had declared war against Russia or China. [More]
I just hope those who wish to treat his presidency as an act of war are deterred from a sneak attack by the potential for commensurate personal consequences.

Front-Runner?

10th Circuit judge Neil Gorsuch has now risen to the top of President Trump's list of potential Supreme Court nominees ...  Judge Gorsuch joined in one opinion, United States v. Rodriguez, 739 F.3d 481 (11th Cir. 2013), which causes us to have some concern about his understanding of the relationship between the government and an armed citizenry. [More]

Meanwhile, Over in the 'Real World'

I was taken to task recently (by someone claiming to be an ex-"Only One") for suggesting an ordinary citizen would get in hot water for having an unsecured gun stolen from his car, and then told to "live in the real world."

Meaning they have their target audience pegged. Hey, nothing succeeds like success.
