A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

A state gun control group is holding a public forum on gun violence on the two-month anniversary of the Northern Illinois University shootings.

Members of the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence are staging the forum at 7 p.m. Monday in a conference room at NIU's Naperville campus at 1120 E. Diehl Road.
So how about it, Illinois gun owners?

Are you going to let these guys dominate the message, or will more of you show up to record the proceedings and ensure the truth is known?

I know the ISRA has this on their website and they are urging members to attend. Does anyone here know if there is a pre-event meeting for "our" side? I've been searching but have not found anything mentioned yet.

David, what are your thoughts on which would be more effective? A random showing of gun owners or an organized showing (similar to Jesse, Snuffy, Duncan and Da Mayor busing people/kids to rallys and protests). I know there is a difference when Rights supporters show up as opposed to kids that were promised a day off school and given a sign to hold ... hopefully right-side up.

I think it should be organized to make sure everyone on our side is well-dressed, well-spoken and well-prepared to be approachable, articulate, presentable and knowledgeable.

Thanks, David. Those were my thoughts. I just wondered if anyone might view us the same way that we view the "dog and pony" shows put on by the antis simply because we organize or arrive together.

It seems that the only plan so far is to meet in the parking lot 15 minutes before the meeting, wearing the same/similar clothes and don't fight. I guess it's better than nothing ... it is Monday evening after all and people are coming home from work.

I live in a part of Illinois far south (more than 4 hours by car) of Naperville, and was thus unable to attend, but how do you like these apples?

I just got back from the Naperville/NIU event and it was the single most lopsided forum I have ever witnessed. There were about 150 in the audience and 4 ICPGV presenters. Without exaggeration, my best guess would be that of the approx 150 in the audience there might have been less than 5 anti's with most of the remainder outwardly pro 2A. The panel took a real beating at the end of their presentation when no fewer than 20 pro2As stood at the microphone for the next 1/2 hour and gave the panel a real tongue lashing. This included the president of the ISRA who made a few "retaliatory verbal" trips to the mic to counter the blatant lies of the ICPGV.

He he.
