From the "They Hate Us Because We're Free" Department

Scheiner has no idea when she became a text-walker, though she knows some state officials, including Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, have spoken out in support of a new bill that would ban using a wireless device while crossing streets.
Hey, it's not like the are any real or dangerous criminals for Illinois "Only Ones" to go after, and this seems a lot safer gig.

And it's not like people are capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time. If we don't legislate and gear permissible activities down to the most oblivious among us--ostensible free people incapable of safely and awarely crossing a street--how else will we continue propagating the least fit among us at the expense of everybody else?

And besides, we need all these rules to keep Jesse's relatives employed.

Bah, you just ruined my day. I've come to the conclusion just about the only thing you can do in DC without risking running into the law is walking. How long do you think it'll be before they bring this up over here?

If you eliminate natural selection pressures by passing "laws" to protect the stupid, you end up with a world where the "best" we can do for a President is Obama/McCain/Barr, and most of the population will be no smarter than any congresscritter or big city mayor. Bring back natural selection! Put the "sapiens" back in Homo sapiens.

Maybe they'll pass a law making it illegal to prosecute anyone in govt. when the govt. person commits a crime..... Oh, never mind.

Not that funny Jon. About a year back I saw a man murdered by Shreveport police who obviously was only armed with a cell phone. The video shown on the news made it apparent to everyone that the man was talking on a cell phone. He walked away from the cops while talking and they shot him multiple times. No charges, no penalty. The "magic words" went to work. Yeah, you know the ones, "I feared for my life."

I didn't know cell phones were so damn dangerous, but obviously, cops are in mortal fear of them. Or not. Seems to be a lot more enforcement against cell phone users than drug dealers and gang bangers, they must not be dangerous. Or perhaps they are just too damn profitable to take down. Whatever the reason, it is much safer to fuck with a cell phone user than to brace a bad guy.
