It Comes as No Surprise

Dennis Farina may be able to carry a gun on-screen, but he won't be able to own one in California for several months.
Well, we knew that was coming.

I'll bet if someone had the resources to look into it, they'd find all kinds of non-connected citizens--particularly minorities from distressed neighborhoods where the risks are highest--get shown leniency on weapons charges every day.

No?

Must be nice to be a only one on the big screen...

Shouldn't we be celebrating that a citizen gets to keep his guns?

Maybe not. California may allow Mr. Farina to carry a firearm "on screen" while filming and may allow him to own a firearm after "several months" have passed but the feds will have something else to say about it.

The feds say if an individual is convicted of even a misdemeanor that carries a sentence of over a year he will qualify as a "felon" for the rest of his life and never be allowed to possess (actual possession or "constructive" possession) a firearm. Neither will his wife if they live in a community property state. After all, what's hers is his. And, "possession" doesn't necessarily mean ownership. Possession also would also include carrying a firearm in front of the camera during the filming of a movie or TV series.

It may be that a high profile individual's arrest and conviction on gun charges might just be a blessing in disguise for the rest of us.

I'm sorry that Mr. Farina has had his right to keep and bear arms infringed, but when he realizes that his livelihood is being threatened by the feds he may just be willing to spend the money required to challenge the federal laws that infringe upon the rights of folks who have been convicted of those felonies and misdemeanors that result in one of "the people" being designated as a "none-person" and regulated to second class citizenship.

I'd say "Yes," anon, if that same judicial consideration were given to all citizens, not just former LEOs with rich and powerful connections--the corrupt standard for Los Angeles.

Farina is a former Chicago cop. While I have always enjoyed his acting, I have always been aware of his similarity to a plethora of "wise guys" I was raised around.

He cannot be clean. No Chicago cop can be. CPD is just another criminal enterprise. I have no personal animosity for Farina, I don't even care that he gets special treatment. It is to be expected that thugs will take care of their own when they can. They will also put a .22 behind his ear if he brings too much heat on the powers that be.

I think we should provide that heat and light. We do not always have to be the pool for "object lessons". Let's share the glory.

Maybe then some others of his exalted status will start to reconsider their stance before they support laws and candidates whom they have always thought were impressed by them and only victimized us "common" folks.

Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't hurt the man for anything, but I really don't mind if his "associates" or some embarrassed politicos do.
