This is the Guy

Pending passage through the vetting process, our next Attorney General will be Eric Holder.

Armed and Safe tells us of a nominee who wants to impose the centerpiece of the McCain small arms control agenda on us, closing the dreaded "gun show loophole," that is, ending all private off-the-books sales.

It gets worse.

For instance, he's also a big fan of waiting periods, and pre-crime, and the Brady Act, and one-gun-a-month, increasing the disarmament enforcement bureaucracy, mandating lock-up-your-safety, and disarming the age demographic that put his prospective boss over the top.

Holder statement-May 1999
When the AMA analyzed the success of Virginia's one-gun-a-month law, it found that the number of guns connected to crime traveling Northeast from Virginia fell 20%.

Holder statement-June 1999
Even worse -- for the events that it does cover, the bill weakens the current law by cutting down the amount of time law enforcement has to complete pre-sale background checks, from 3 working days to 72 hours.

Holder briefing-October 1999
[W]e need Congress to pass the common- sense gun safety legislation that is in the Senate and that has been passed in the Senate by a bipartisan vote. We need to extend the Brady law protection to gun shows and flea markets and deny guns to those who committed violent offenses as juveniles, require child- safety locks on handguns and give law enforcement the tools that it needs to further reduce gun crime. We also need to have the COPS Program fully funded.

Statement as Deputy AG
Of course, our strategy does not rely merely on punishing offenders after crimes have been committed. We are also working to implement measures to prevent gun crimes before they occur.

Gun control debate
ERIC HOLDER: A mandatory 72-hour waiting period for all happen-gun purchases will help stop heat-of-the moment killings and a proposed increase in the minimum age for handgun possession from 18 to 21 will get hand guns out of the hands of the most crime-prone age group.
This is the guy.

This unfolding comedy of errors cum tragedy is a real life version of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. I thought her antagonist characters were drawn a bit cartoon-like. I was wrong.

God help us.

That is all that is left to say.

A mandatory 72-hour waiting period for all happen-gun purchases . . .

What the bloody hell is a "happen-gun purchase"?

"Happen-gun"= "handgun," if one is semi-literate?

"Guns connected to crime" = guns in the hands of non-police in a gun-free urban zone.

There are 250 million people in this country, and, now, about 300 million guns.
They can TRY...

My state is Virginia, and one-a-month hasn't decreased violent crime in the least HERE -- it goes on as usual in the cities, where it's concentrated.
The age to possess a handgun is already 21 statewide. Doesn't keep 14-year-olds from killing their robbery victims, drug acquaintances or people who "diss" them.
But you know all this.
I'm sad to admit yet again that reason and speech will not save what's left of our rights, when our enemies use only one of those.

Follow the part of kids with violent convictions. That means kids who have been in fights and get charged with A&B will lose their guns rights for their adult lives. This is the new Frank Commieberg Gun Law.

I want to know, what good does a waiting period do for those of us who already OWN GUNS? If I am so angry at my wife/friend/relative I am going to go beserk and kill them, why would I take the time to drive to a gun store? Wouldn't I just reach into my closet/safe/drawer, pull out my gun and shoot them? And that is taking for granted that any one of us would shoot someone we know and love. Utter insanity!

Isn't 72 hours 3 days?

yes, 72 hours is three days, but not necessarily three working days.

Many years ago when I lived in Clinton, Il. two kids about 17 got is a little pusing match over a girl. This happened just little way off the courthouse square. A really stupid cop arrested them both for A&B an felonious assault and whatever else he could think of. Though there were no punches thrown, no injuries and no one left their feet.

Before tyranny became the ambition of every damn badge wearing bully a real cop would have given them lecture broke them up and made them go home. Both kids are now....well, you know, subcitizens nearing fifty years of age.

Holder has the honor of having set up the Elian Gonzalez raid as well, a real prince of a guy. The BHO regime will come out of the gate hard and fast to emplace its most onerous and dramatic changes.
