Ask the Candidates

I want an unequivocal statement from each candidate on the right to keep and bear arms. I should note that Mr. Blackwell looks good*, and Mr. Steele's bizarre advocacy that "society should draw line" about the right to own semiautos** makes him about as acceptable to gun owners as Barack Obama.
And to think it almost didn't get posted due to objectionable language!

Hey, look--go here, and then go here.

Do you really want the RNC to select its chair without significant input from gun owners?

I really don't get it--I'm accused in some quarters of being a Threeper Terrorist, yet here I am trying to effect a political intervention and everyone else is apparently silent or oblivious.

Even more frustrating--it would appear counting on regular readers to spend one lousy minute doing something like this is apparently too much to ask. It truly makes me question if I'm wasting my time here.

Will you go here, right now, and submit your own question? Because we're out of time--the debate is tomorrow.

Or will you just throw sand on the idea and tell me why it's not worth even a moment of your time?

UPDATE: 45superman reminds us to vote for pro-RKBA questions to increase the likelihood of their being asked.

UPDATE 2: I put out a plea on Examiner.com.

Please help spread the word on this.

UPDATE 3: The neocons like Patrick Ruffini want us to think mere "policy" like the 2nd Amendment is not important because the Chair has no say in that. BULL. The GOP as a party must take a pro-Bill of Rights stand starting at the top. If they don't, the hell with them. If I want a democrat, I can vote for a democrat.

If the GOP becomes the Party of Ruffinis, it can just die.

David,
Your reprimand has been accepted and my first entry has been placed. More to follow.

Posted my questions on Jan. 2. It's amazing how many have posted since then. I seriously doubt any of them will take the time to read all that, or care about it if they do, but what the heck...

Personally, I don't see this sort of thing as any measure or reflection of the value of WoG or your efforts, David. And the sad truth is that the value of those things will never be apparent to most people. There are only a few people willing to be responsible for themselves and their actions/choices. Nothing we can ever do or say will change that.

All we can do is help to rescue those lost in the crowd, to call out the 3% who really desire to be free.

Lots of good, RKBA related questions are being submitted now, but remember that once you register there, you can, in addition to submitting questions of your own, vote on the suitability of questions that have already been asked.

Please go through the last couple pages, and vote "Yes" on the Second Amendment related questions.

Thanks for the heads up David. Wouldn't it be nice to have a politician firmly on the side of the constitution, fully supporting our natural rights? kinda like Ron Paul.

Its done...Sorry for the delay

By the way I got a new web site and am working on it now...you Logo for GRE shows at least twice and will be all over it when I am finished.

If anyone has a blog or web site they would like for me to link on mine just let me know.

The new site is
http://opawwsrange.110mb.com/

Don't laugh it's not finished yet.

You may be overanalyzing this.

My question was number 562,so even if you count the questions rejected because of inappropriate use of the word "word" it is unlikely more than 1000 questions have been or will be submitted.

In addition, if you really want to bump a question to the top of the list you will probably need at least 300-400 registered voters.

The sort-by-numbers as of this morning had the top question votes
in the range of 280.

Call out the Militia and have everyone agree to vote on a specific question. Yours will be just as well as any other.

Just food for thought.

Below each question that has been submitted, you'll see "Vote Total: " (followed by a number), and then a down arrow and an up arrow. Click on the up arrow to vote for that question, or the down arrow to vote against it.

David Codrea said...

Chris, at the bottom of each individual question you can vote it up or down with the appropriate arrow button.

Thanks opaww--I have your current blog linked on my Examiner page.

JJH--good idea building up votes. If people give us the urls to their questions, I'd say vote for all the ones you know about. I figured it would be immodest to say vote for mine...

Ditto on not only leaving a pro-2A question, but voting for the other pro-2A questions.

I'm not sure I should ask the same questions that have been covered and dilute the pool, but I'm going through and voting up certain Second Amendment questions. I refuse to vote in favor of anything asking a simple question such as "Do you support the Second Amendment?" because even Barack Obama knows the answer to THAT one.

"Will the national party make states recognize all concealed handgun permits, just like they do for drivers' licenses? Will the national party hold accountable the BAFTE by congressional hearings and subsequent convictions for their abuses against the American people?"

You happy now? My first question isn't as nuanced as it should, but if it gets asked hopefully he can elaborate on equal protection, BoR, etc...

David Codrea said...

John Higgins--good point--if they throw that softball question out there, we'll know they're playing games and should react accordingly.

David, I just voted myself. I agree with John Higgins and point blank asked a question that included "Do you support it in its entirety including the second part that says it should NOT be infringed." Of course asking any candidate to say any point blank, clear statement, with no loop holes or wiggle room is like asking fire to chill out.

Wow I got five votes already! I think you're up to 20 david! Mine is question 619.

Here's mine:

"Based on the plain text of the Constitution, along with the Federalist Papers as well as comtemporary commenters, it is clear that the Framers meant what they said when they wrote "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Using that as a guide, it's clear that the National Firearms Act of 1934, the Gun Control Act of 1968, and the 1986 Hughes Amendment are Unconstitutional on their face. What do you plan to do to repeal these illegal infringements on our Liberty?
Secondly, and most importantly, if the Republican Party won't trust We The People (the unorganized Militia according to the 1903 Dick Act)with the same kinds of arms that are freely issued to both the police and the National Guard (the organized Militia according to the Dick Act), why should anyone vote for a Republican candidate for any office at any level?"

And it got posted!

Anonymous said...

Formulating mine now over coffee.... wow, every question so far has been from an actual conservative- but the media told me there was no such thing anymore? GREAT questions on there, will any be posed and receive a remotely honest answer?

Voted for every 2A question I could find.

David,

You're right. Please accept my apology. I went back 10 pages in voting and have posted three questions.

Thank you.

If Republicans are to conserve the Constitutional Republic then why are they listening to Kissinger, Big Z, Rothschild and Rockefellers "Council on Foreign Relations" and "Trilateral Commission" that is pushing for a one world government where the corrupt UN IMF World Bank makes the rules, instead of our own Sovereign country's rule of the law?

All of these question are gonna be PAINFUL to answer....

Good example of a question on which to cast a "No" vote:

The NRA won the debate and not even the opposition is dumb enough to push gun control, yet far too many Republicans think the 2nd Amendment is the most critical issue. How do you take their enthusiasm and translate it into fighting on the issues that are in play?

I'm curious as to what folks think of this question:

What is your position on new laws that are intended to impose reasonable restrictions on an individual's right to keep and bear arms?

My first instinct was to reject this question out of hand, but on second thought, the answers could be quite informative.

Thanks for the help on the voting problem. It is a browser issue, my old firefox did not show the little arrows. Using a different browser allowed me to get in some voting.

David,
Thanks for getting the ball rolling. I posted the following question and then went all the way back to page 35 and voted for all 2nd amendment questions I could find. By the time I got back to my entry there were already 19 votes on it.

I too would like an unequivocal statement from each candidate on the individual right to keep and bear arms. - In addition, I would like to know if the Republican Party intends to require its members in Congress to adhere to their oaths to support and defend the Constitution, and to be sure of the constitutionality of all bills before voting them into law.
W W Woodward | PERMALINK | January 04, 2009 • 4:46PM | Q#: 699 | Vote TOTAL: 19

BTW - David's question is #542 and was on page #9.

So I guess that Ruffini is just fine with a "winning strategy" that involves turning the Republican Party into statists with an "R" after their names. Yeah--that approach has turned great dividends lately.

The only r inside the beltway that is not a rino is Ron Paul, look at the voting records. The facts are at http://thenewamerican.com/, scroll down to the freedom index and check it out. A couple of times ago 48% of the r's voted to the left of ted kennedy. "Not a dime's worth of difference".

I think the GOP died a long time ago. But I'll still ask the question.

Those neo-cons are still holding on strong aren't they David? They don't allow dissent from the party line, just like the dems, and scorn Paul and his supporters. These people believe only in power and defending their corrupt dealings. That cowardly vessel of a man ruffini is bleating as loud as he can in hopes that his mouth will be filled with feed by his masters. Little does he know his efforts are not to his benefit and his masters will sacrifice him at their whim.

Forget it David, its the RNC...

John Higgins said...

It may be a bit unscrupulous, but it's also possible to vote down non-2A questions.

If you have not seen it, Michael Bane's question (#105) is the top-ranked (and one of the best) 2A questions with 105 votes. Tossing a few votes that way (and perhaps voting down the questions above it, if you think it fair) would get it on page 1.

opaww said...

WoW I got 58 votes for my question as of 3:20 am 5 Jan.

I wish to know which Candidates fully support our right to keep and bar arms/Second Amendment? The Right to keep and bar arms is a all or nothing deal, and not subject to someones personal belief

It is more then likely someones voting key got stuck

opaww said...

I just read Patrick Ruffini's post on The RNC not being policy making board...It seems it is not a policy making group if it is about the 2nd Amendment but he has listed other questions that refer to policy making of the RNC and say they were acceptable.

Anonymous said...

I Voted for Blackwell, then I searched for all 2A related questions and voted for them as well. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Ironic, Blackwell wouldn't be in a position to chair the RNC if Ted Strickland had not won the last Gubernatorial race in Ohio. It is very likely that Ted would not have won if anti-gun Republican (and convicted convict) Bob Taft had not been governor previously. So if Blackwell wins the RNC chairmanship, can we thank Taft?

It seems to me from your statement above "Good Questions to Vote for in the ATR Debate" of addressing the issues as a party platform that the republican voters want. YES it is the RNC's job to sit policy that the voters demand.

If a chairman is not in line with the demnds of the Republican voters then you truly do not represent the party. First and formost the party must adopt a platform then elect a chairman who is in line and suppors that platform.

What you said boils down to you and the RNC have no intention of addressing nor setting policy based on what the members want as per the vast amounts of posts already posted in the forum on the debate questions. SO why ask anyone just go about you normal elite self serving arrogance and just deside for everyone what they should want like the good socialist you are becomming.

And while your at it make sure you change from Republican to commiecrat instead of playing the deception game.

NO set policy NO republican vote

Better late than never:

"President Elect Obama has been an advocate for anti-gun policies during his entire professional and political life. VP elect Biden has introduced an Assault Weapons Ban as recently as 2007. The House and Senate are let by individuals who vigorously support anti-gun legislation. I would like to know exactly where each candidate stands on Second Amendment issues and what each candidate would do to oppose future gun control legislation."

W W Woodward said...

It's pretty obvious that the RNC really doesn't give a fat rat's ass what we would like to know. They apparently aren't concerned about the second amendment or, for that matter, any other portion of the Constitution. In the future, I'll vote the Constitutional Party and the republicans can kiss my ass while the democrats can kiss their own ass.

I apologize for the French and hope I've offended only the RINOs and yellow dogs.
