Huh? Is this some netiquette detail I've missed? Whazzat?
I saw it some time ago. I play it by ear--for instance, NRA puts out pdf files and I see a bunch of news orgs linking to it so I figure it must be OK. But for smaller operations and especially private sites I've been told that.
I entered search terms

in Google and a bunch of articles came up, talking about hotlinking and why you shouldn't.
But don't look to me for tech advice. That's why I couched it as "I understand..." as opposed to making it a definitive statement of authority.
Ask around and let me know what you're told?
