BRITAIN appears to be evolving into the first modern soft totalitarian state. As a sometime teacher of political science and international law, I do not use the term totalitarian loosely.

There are no concentration camps or gulags but there are thought police with unprecedented powers to dictate ways of thinking and sniff out heresy, and there can be harsh punishments for dissent. [More]

And if the reporter had been living in England when he wrote it, both he and the article would probably never again see the light of day. Some of that stuff, especially the lengths they were willing to go to in order to cow the children to the government's ideals and authority to enforce those arbtrarily defined ideals is down right scary.

Congress passed our own national "hate speech" law yesterday.

It might be illegal to write something as simple and innocuous as:
