We're the Only Ones Light-Fingered Enough

A Scituate police officer has been placed on leave after he was charged with shoplifting from a Weymouth Stop & Shop where he worked part-time. [More]
Obviously more trustworthy than you and me. That's why he's an "Only One" and we're not.

"McGaffigan was found to be carrying his department-issued gun when police arrived. It is not clear if he had worked, or was going to work, a police shift that day."

Obviously, the reporter is surprised that police officers actually carry guns when off-duty. Perhaps the reporter would prefer that off-duty police officers call the on-duty police when a crime is observed? After all, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
I wonder how the reporter deals with everyday people carrying guns?
