A Non-Competitive Procurement

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) intends to award a non-competitive, sole source purchase order to Anzio Ironworks Corporation, 1905 16th Street N, St. Petersburg, FL 33704 for two (2) Magfed 20mm Rifles and accessories...[More]
Thing is, they say it's non-competitive, but they're obviously planning to compete against somebody.

Who?

I note the source site isn't comfortable linking to the original solicitation. I have a pretty broad comfort zone, so I will.

Heck, I'll even take it a step further:

UPDATE:

Is it just me, or does this raise even more questions?

At a guess, I'd say some JBT has been reading the "Absolved" chapters Mike has been posting, and it occurred to them they might need to deal with hardened defensive positions.

But this:

"Suppressors in 20mm (Qty: 2 each)"

...cracked me up. How in the [expletive] [expletive] do you suppress a 20mm rifle?! Start with a 55 gallon steel drum?

Carl, have you seen this . . . interesting contraption?

Just two? Aint skeered. Still, they know that one day they'll have to engage the American people, in this they're way ahead of many involved in the struggle for freedom.

Why - Grandma - what big teeth you have...

45superman, thanks. I needed a laugh. I wonder if they had those back when I was in Germany. Most of my Army contacts were infantry or helicopters, so I might not have... wait for it ... heard about it.

...yeah, leave it up to the gummint to order 20mm cannons with muzzle brakes AND suppressors. That's a heck of a gun counter sales job there...

Non-firing bolt assemblies (Qty: 2 each)

Am I missing something here? Or, is this "non-firing" nomenclature something like "rifled barrels" for shotguns?

Serious question -- Somebody, please?

I admit I am a coward when it comes to hyperlinking in this case. I got the info from m4carbine.net that somebody came across for a news report. That particular thread is locked since it devolved like threads on forums do . . .

Now I never said that--everybody has their own level of comfort with what they're willing to publicly commit to.

Me, I actually have fun with this kind of stuff.

Ken Hagler said...

Maybe they want something to use if they need to go up against one of those small-town SWAT teams with the armored personnel carriers? Unless they just want to impress people at the range, there's really no other use for an anti-tank rifle...

I did not say you said that, sorry if it I was misunderstood.

This is such an inferior form of communication--none of the non-verbal cues come through--facial expressions, mannerisms, tone, pitch, volume, delivery. No wonder people get so mad at each other on forums.

Mr. Boniface, I didn't misunderstand you. It's just that a friend who I respect makes fun of my maturity AND masculinity when I end statements with smiley faces to show I'm in good humor, and when he does, my family doesn't understand when I throw myself weeping onto the bed.

All is good on my end. I'm glad you brought this story to our attention.

Oh, I get it, they've got a C&R, and they're, "adding to the collection," or something.

Do the Batmen have a file on the Fibbies?

Texas Shooter, they may very well be gearing up to show it to us. Hope not. but oh well.

Bullshit. They just want something new to kill unarmed women and children, from a greater range. Once they account for all the weapons they have lost in the last twenty years, then they can have new ones, but only smart guns.

Fokking cannons, now the fbi boys want cannons! Let 'em sign on for Trashcanistan if they want to play war.

Next req will be for M1A1s w/fbi logos on the flanks.

Dick Winters had good success against cannon crews. His tactics are still taught in military academies. Perhaps we should become familiar with them?
