Look! Up in the Sky! It's Bird! It's a Plane!

It's a public/private partnership! [Read]

What would you use to bring one of these babies down?

I looked up the fine folks behind this project and they hide behind a layer from general view. How telling that they want to see us but the mirror is one-way.

Their address "suite" is PO box at a UPS store.

CCD and FLIR imaging can be washed out with LEDs and batteries, for pennies.

you can jam the wireless signals used to control it -- i assume that returns it to a programmed flight and prevents pilot-assist mode -- but that means you can also jam the receiver side, effectively blinding whoever is trying to watch the broadcast.

worst case, you can receive those wireless signals yourself, and know exactly what the opponent knows. by listening regularly, you can get advance warning that the UAV is coming, even if you can't decode the video. heck, you could program a mote to flip on its LEDs when it hears a UAV coming then just leave it somewhere.

even laser rangefinders can be defeated.

I wonder what size shotgun round that this thing is going to fire. Seems it couldn't be too powerful for it would knock that toy out of the sky. This thing is going to be a joke and will not work in the real world. But hey its only taxpayers money so giving it a try is free!!!

To answer your first question David:

Pull!

Bang!

It's not a bird or a plane but a new public/private govt. electronic skeet!

Those of us who wear tin foil hats will have no worries as the tin foil will conduct the taser's electrical current....

Yep, eletronic clay pigeons. A more high-tech solution would be a high-powered IR laser to blind it and wide-band RF jamming to force the operator to lose control. A small model airplane could also bring it down with a kamikazi attack.

Someone knows how to get to them:

I am an admited conspiracy theorist, or that is what the government would call me. But, how long until these litle toys are monitoring our neighborhods and spying on us? Anyone who believes that these are for criminals needs to grow up! Anyone who believes that Homeland Security is for brown people in caves neds to grow up. All of this garbage is for us the white al qaeda. Bis Sis is probably watching me type this comment. The new Amerika, aint it great!

5.56, 30-round mag + tracers would be good close-range AA for dealing with such terrorist threats.

This type of problem was dealt with before. When Germany first launched V-1s against London, British and American AAA batteries at Dover Castle were shooting them down.

Search on "Antwerp X", the Allied defense of Antwerp from German V-1 attacks.

American AAA batteries east of Antwerp in December 1944 also used their 90mm radar controlled guns firing horizontally for defense against German armored units during the Battle of the Bulge.
