But something that could result in them destroying the life of one of their "employers"? It would appear the most expedient thing to do is to count on the old "consistent with department policy" standby when they overreact out of ignorance and fear... never mind that we want to go home at the end of their shift, too...

How many times have we heard that ignorance of the law is no excuse? It works both ways. It is unwise for police officers to unlawfully arrest lawyers. It usually does not work out well. Just like a dog attacking a skunk or a porcupine, it usually happens only once.
