Like it or not, it's gonna happen. [More]
Like it or not, Mike's going.
That means all the pro and con advice is now a moot point.
This is the new paradigm all of us, but especially the "gun groups," need to get used to, because it effectively nullifies any "compromises" some may be inclined to agree to. Ultimately, people are going to choose to obey or disobey. Ultimately, people are going to choose if they wish to confront. Once the decision is made, our approval and agreement don't matter. Nothing we say or do is going to stop it.
Once the decision is made, we can condemn them as extremists who make us all look bad, or we can remind any so inclined that the real extremists are those who would deny rights and force their will on others.
I suppose we'll see how many urging "go" will go themselves, and how many who won't will help with the legal costs. But for now, let's think positive, and hope that this turns out to be the genius move some believe it to be.
I don't recall ever praying to be proven absolutely wrong before. That is now my prayer.

David, I believe that you underestimate the dedication and the generosity of the 3% community.
Hopefully we will not need to see if your belief trumps my experience.
Mike means it ...
If you find yourself through the looking glass, where the verities of the world you knew and loved no longer apply, there is only one thing to do. Knock the Red Queen on her ass, turn around, and smash the bloody mirror. -- Mike Vanderboegh
Once the mirror is smashed the paradigm will have changed for ever - only how much remains to be seen.

Well, brother, you already know how I feel. If Mike was 20 years younger and in good health I would have said, go for it. But to me, encouraging a frail man who struggles every day with serious health issues to go for it? Never. We know how stubborn our friend is so all we can do now is pray hard for his safe travel and return. As for confidence in the people urging him on, to me there is a thin line between confidence and naivete. May God be with him. And thank you again, David, for trying.
this "...effectively nullifies any "compromises" some may be inclined to agree to."
like a deliberate strategy...
