Feeling the Love

Left on Oregon Firearms Federation's voice mail (NSFW or around children or your mom warning):

If you believe in RKBA, consider the message directed at you as well, and ask yourself what kind of "compromise" this headcase would deem acceptable and enough.

And by the way, I wouldn't take it as gospel that he left his real phone number. Then again it may be-- I just recommend making sure if you intend to call, in case he left it to try and entrap...

Dave seems so upset he can't decide if it was one guy with a gun or not one guy with a gun who did this. Make up your mind Dave. Apparently had a ballistic vest on also? How'd he get past this school's security like that? Wonder if the school signed your agreement?

Unfortunately, the changes in how our society deals with mental health problems vs. personal freedom to prevent another tragedy like this are unacceptable. Gun control and accessibility merely redirects the weapons of choice when someone decides to act on their violent impulses. Expecting rationality and good decision making on both society and the unbalanced is unrealistic.

Do people really want their brothers, sisters, children and parents that exhibit slightly abnormal behavior to be immediately locked up until they can consistently demonstrate reasonable behavior? After all, they MIGHT be dangerous, we cannot be too careful and some of us think that deprivation of liberty to promote the feeling of safety is the solution.

These people are the "living in a fantasy" types who believe that ridding the Earth of guns is the solution, or even possible. Dave is an emotional linear solutions gun who blames objects and gives those objects power without considering the Human component, or even alternate methods capable of killing. Yes Dave, a murderer walking into a room with one armed person or more as a defender, will reduce a body count. Fantasy solutions don't apply, not even in New York.

Seen on the internet lately: man kills 50 coal miners with a knife in China. Guess that's okay, because that isn't the extra special evil gun violence.

From the mainstream media: crickets.

"10 students died because one person had a gun", huh?

I agree. 10 students died because one person had a gun, and that person happened to be a bad guy intent on harming as many people as possible.

Zero students died in the next building over, where one person had a gun; he was a good guy who was not intent on harm.

I posit that if both people had been in that room - that would be two people with guns, for those keeping score at home - then far less than 10 students would have died. We'll never know for sure, but that's my belief, and unlike "Dave"'s rant, my position isn't refuted by available evidence.
