Hmmm. My history includes war with Mexico, culminating in the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in February of 1848. While we did in fact wrest control of a large chunk of territory from Mexico at the conclusion of that war, we also paid them the sum of fifteen million dollars as part of the peace agreement, equivalent of nearly half a billion dollars as of 2017 for what was at the time desert and undeveloped territory.
