I don't think this is true. When I was a teenager in NC, I was once walking about with a pair in my back pocket, inadequately concealed by my coat, and I was stopped by a police officer who told me that they were illegal and that I shouldn't be carrying then. Of course, police officers never lie ...

UH WRONG! Ky. banned them in the 1970's. I'm pretty sure that if you do a little more home work you'll find that banning all kinds of martial arts weapons was a fad with many state legislatures in the 70's and 80's. It's a lot more than four.
Please provide a link proving AzCDL is wrong.
Are you sure that states like Kentucky have banned nunchaku?
An initial search of The Kentucky Revised Statutes website does not seem to indicate any prohibition on nunchaku.

missed something... Can you show any states that have, besides the ones we mentioned

Yes . Unless it has been repealed; Ky banned Nunchucks at the same time they did throwing stars and throwing knives. Around 1976 if memory serves.
The operative word here is "banned."
I can find a Kentucky statute against carrying a concealed deadly weapon with nunchakus & stars included in the definition, but not against their ownership/possession:
