We're the Only Ones Multi-Tasking Enough

In the seconds before a crash that killed two Colllinsville sisters and injured a Fayetteville couple, Illinois State Police trooper Matt Mitchell was traveling at triple-digit speeds, sending and receiving e-mails with another trooper and talking to his girlfriend on his cell phone, according to documents released in a civil suit this week. See, Illinois "Only Ones" are allowed to carry pistols, but you and I aren't, because they have better judgment and more training than we do.

Or does that only work when the "Only Ones" do it?

Shifting the Burden

The new law allows the modified self-defense law to be applied retroactively to Fish's case, as well as to any others filed after April 24, 2006, as long as the defendant did not plead guilty or no contest. [More]
What if the facts of the case apply, and the person pleaded no contest because they couldn't afford the legal fight?

And since when has the burden NOT been on the prosecution to prove a crime...?

We're the Only Ones Threatened Enough

"The officers felt they were being threatened - they were in fear for their lives"... [More]
And if you feel threatened on the streets of DC?

If you fear for your life?

Hey, you're not one of the District's elite "Only Ones."

And you're probably a coward to boot.

We're the Only Ones Running the Place Enough

Hebert allegedly followed Kockler inside the residence pulling a gun on the 6 people inside. "Once inside, he started telling everybody they can't leave. Ain't nobody going anywhere and that he runs this place. This is his house now and he was going to call his SWAT team to come in here and take my son from me. Nobody was going nowhere and putting a pistol in everybody's face," claimed Kockler. [More]

That Pesky Sixth Amendment

The opinion, written by Justice Antonin Scalia, has prosecutors and judges shaking their heads in disgust and defense lawyers nodding with satisfaction at the notion that the Constitution's Sixth Amendment guarantee that defendants "shall enjoy the right . . . to be confronted with the witnesses against him" is not satisfied by a sheet of paper. But if rights are collective, didn't, by "witnesses," the Founders mean "the government" instead of a specific individual?

We're the Only Ones Losing It Enough

"More than 20 police officers' guns lost or stolen since last year..." [More]
Actually, they're only entrusted to the "Only Ones." Who haven't had to pay for their negligence. Why should they, when they have tax cows?

Say...isn't Atlanta where all those guns from "Operation Southbound Steel" supposedly came from...?

It's Not the Gun...

After the suspect shot the store owner and opened fire on patrons, the owner's friend shot the suspect once in the torso, took his gun and called police, Thorne-Begland said. [More]

Gun Rights Examiners Take on Sotomayor

As you can see, we've been working hard to bring you information on where this nominee stands on your right to keep and bear arms, raising questions that will no doubt be put to her if she is confirmed to the Supreme Court. [More]

I have heard nothing from the Northward since my last. I this day recd. Advice from Staten Island, that on Sunday Seventy sail of the Enemy's Ships fell down from the watering place to the Hook, but whether they have since gone out to Sea, I have not heard. Till I have more certain information of the State of our Affairs to the Northward, and of Genl Howe's real intentions, I have concluded to halt the Army at this place, from whence I can march either forward or return, as circumstances may require. Delayed Posting Today

If you look at the time on this post, you'll note it's pretty early.

I'm off to the hospital for a family member. I may post later this afternoon when I get back, or I may go straight to bed, having only slept about two hours last night.

Daley's Armed Bodyguard Proves Mayor's Hypocrisy

You would be hard pressed to find a more anti-gun politician than Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Which makes the headline from a Second Amendment Foundation press release an interesting example of "Do as I say, not as I do" elitism:
DALEY’S BODYGUARD CATCHES KILLER; ‘WE SHOULD ALL BE SO LUCKY,’ SAYS SAF [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner looks at a damned hypocrite.

A Backhanded Gift

“Blaming the ‘gun culture’ for a criminal act is a calculated insult to the tens of millions of peaceable American gun owners who own firearms and do not engage in violence,” responded David Codrea, whose blog is called “The War on Guns.” [More]
And why would I say that?
[F]undraising. The bigger the controversy, the more specific the appeals for cash.
Really? Can anyone link us to even one fundraising appeal from anyone in "the gun lobby" that mentions the story this guy is talking about?

Certainly not from me. See that "In Lieu of a Tip Jar" click-through in the left sidebar?

Hell, I'm lucky to get readers here to even click on an Examiner link, let alone pass it on. I can't imagine how dismal a prospect it would be if I solicited for funds.

Oh, sure, once in a while I'll tell you about a book I think you might enjoy, or ask to help out with a specific case like Wayne Fincher (who, incidentally, I sent a check to before asking anyone else)...but if that was my strategy for the Mike Lupica story, wow, did I fail.

Sorry, Ken Newton. There were no "high fives" coming from me.

I guess a salaried "Authorized Journalist" might not understand that some people actually believe in what they profess?

Still, thanks for the mention. You spelled the name right.

Next time, though, could you include a link to my GRE page? I could sure use a few more pennies rolling in!

Money money money....
