Obama, of course, knows all this. It's why names like these would be foremost in his considerations and reflects that new-found "flexibility" he perceives is his as the restrictions that have always been his goal emerge from "under the radar." He's counting on a supportive media and an establishment Republican leadership that time and again through the years has equated appeasement with pragmatism. He's counting on an attorney general that will help him push whatever he wants through the courts and he's counting on Supreme Court replacements that will let him get away with it. [More]

Veterans Day 2012

This is my first passing of this day without this principled, wise, strong and exemplary human being in my life.  He was my hero, the one I imprinted off of, the one I consciously use as my template for how a man is supposed to conduct himself.

What a blessing, to have enjoyed a lifetime of memories that resulted in my feeling this way.

Aside from the opportunity to poke a little fun at the type of human error I'm also guilty of at times, the link actually is significant.  I'm going to get to work right now on an article to explain why I think this is so ominous.

Romney lost because he refused to provide an alternative to any of this for fear of being labelled a warmonger, flint-heart or social reactionary. He refused to engage with any of the issues that made this Presidential election so truly momentous. Up against the bullying of the totalitarian left, he ran for cover. He played safe, and as a result only advertised his own weakness and dishonesty. Well, voters can smell inconsistency from a mile away; they call it untrustworthiness, and they are right. [More]

So Romney pursued a tepid and uninspiring strategy easy for attack by the left, which conversely played a brilliantly dirty game by ginning up resentment many in the Democrat base feel toward “the rich” in general and Northeast capital investment elites in particular. It also meant Romney ducked addressing red meat visceral issues that would put fire in the belly of supporters—while many felt obliged to hold their noses and vote for him as the "lesser evil," that did not, and could not, translate into the type of enthusiastic commitments needed to win a championship.

"It's good to remember that:
1. Any treaty must be approved by a two-thirds vote of the Senate before the Presidentere's signature becomes effective.
2. Treaties (especially UN treaties) are not self-enforcing. They do not become law within a nation. To be enforced within the US a statute would have to be passed.
3. Treaties do not alter the Constitution. Both the House and the Senate would have to pass a bill for a statute which enforces the treaty to become law. 
4. Because the treaty would not alter the Constitution, any statute passed for the purpose of enforcing it must comply with the Constitution and the Amendments to the Constitution."

Sure, if our "leaders" are inclined to observe the Constitution. Since when? They have been doing what they want all along and feel nothing but emboldened now, and the media will be backing them up every step of the way.

See the link I have at the end of my column about "Researchers." I put those there for a reason.

And bear in mind I specifically made a point to write: "But at this point, the likelihood of the treaty's passage is not the story" and then went on to explain what is.

My column isn't so much about the ATT as it is about a storm heading our way due to a "more flexible" willingness to exercise power by an arrogant ruler bent on revenge and now feeling unrestrained.

It's wonderful to see forums discussing this.  Just be careful to sort the hip shot opinions from the painstaking research.

There's a seemingly contradicting meme pincer strategy being deployed here, because you'll see others on the left still protesting that the Democrats won't touch guns because of what happened politically decades back. Be aware of it and you'll start to see this more and more.
