I don't suppose there's any way to console a man who has suffered such a loss. I think the agony and guilt a father would feel over a son doing this could drive the strongest among us over the edge.
But pointing to US gun laws and now at unknown manipulators goes to the crux of the "gun control" argument: freedom doesn't just mean doing what you want. It means being personally accountable for your actions.
It sounds hard, unsympathetic and cruel, but your son did this murderous act. If others influenced him, he chose to heed that influence.
This business of apportioning blame to guns, to the law, to others, has been bought into by a significant number of voters who hold a misguided faith that human evil will end by mandating social change. That they're enablers for further and more monstrous evil does not occur to them because the ones not in on the scam actually believe they're doing good.

David, the communists/socialists have done their work well. They have been able to infect every level of beauracracy with this same M.O. The inability of a majority of our citizens to take responsibility for their own actions is the reason for our current dilema.

Actually, the kid did purchase the shotgun legally through a (unnamed)local sporting goods chain. The PD & press have been pretty quiet about not exposing the store's name since they did nothing wrong and don't need the bad press. I did hear that the original owner of the apparently once stolen handgun had been located a few states away from Utah. Still no word on how the kid came to have it.

You gun nuts are missing the big picture. Who taught the kid how to load and fire a weapon????
Guns aren't simple tools. You don't just put in a bullet, point, and pull the trigger - you have to be trained to use such a highly technical and unreliable device. Next you gun-loving-baby-killers will be telling people that launching fireworks can be done "just by lighting a fuse".

If the father doesn't know how his kid did all this, then there's a definite fault with the parenting.
Well, the bad parenting was fairly obvious, however, maybe he's got a point.
Maybe he's trying to point a finger without sticking his neck out? Fleeing a war torn hell hole...maybe a family member working on his jihad?

Jeff, I generally agree with you, but just saying there could be something else at work that should be looked at.
H.H., point taken and agreed. I do agree with Rob Allen on his point that there are parenting issues involved here. I think it is a parents duty to instruct their children in the proper safety and use of firearms. I am fortunate in that I had a father and grandfather that took the time to instill in me great respect for firearms. A legacy that will be passed on to my children. The MSM definately refuses to focus on that aspect of criminal behavior with firearms.
