St. John's Campus Lockdown: Man With Rifle Arrested

What is with these people not following clearly stated policy?
The following actions are considered violations of the Student Code of Conduct and are subject to disciplinary action:
30. Weapons and ExplosivesPossession, display, use or distribution of any weapon such as a firearm, knife, blackjack, stun gun, etc., or any item used as a weapon or of such a nature that it is intended for use as a weapon or violent purposes, except with expressed University authorization, on University-owned or controlled property or at University-sponsored functions.

This report says it was "a .50 caliber rifle inside a bag." It's unclear at this point how many 747's fly over St. Johns' Queens campus, or if there are any nearby chemical plants, refineries or nuclear facilities to blow up, so it beats me what else he would have needed one for.

We'll see if it ends up being a .50 BMG.

They're saying it's a blackpowder muzzleloader.

Muzzleloader or not .... the authorized journalists will be sure to include an image of a Barrett Model 82A1/M107 as a backdrop to the story. It's too hard to resist an opportunity like this.

The report says it's a Wolf muzzle loader. And the AP picture next to the story is a BMG.

Captioned:
"The suspect was said to be carrying a .50 caliber black powder Wolf rifle, similar to the one shown above.

Seems the picture was taken down.

"After we got all the text messages everybody panicked and rushed out of the building." ... This seems like it could play straight into a Beslan moment... "right into the waiting machine guns."

Here's an actual Wolf muzzle loader:

I'm sure he had the evil black version.

So it took them less than an hour to get rid of their bogus BMG picture. The blogosphere strikes again.

According to these guys it's a " 50-caliber single pump-action shotgun." I think they just reached into a bag and pulled out random gun words.

Seems like it. I posted this over on THR just after 5pm and they took it down shortly after 3 or 4 of us hit up their contact page notifying them of the error.

I think WCBSTV did a pretty good job of shoring up the article as time allowed.
