More on State AGs

Yesterday, we discussed finding out where our state attorneys general stand on the Heller case, and if they will file an amicus brief on its behalf.

Correspondent GarandFan did some stats legwork for us in his comments.

1894C points us to this essay by Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox.

David Hardy tells me Texas Solicitor General R. Ted Cruz "is rounding up AG amici," and reports the Arkansas AG Dustin McDaniel is filing one.

I'm toying with the idea of putting together one of those maps of the US where the states are color coded to show who's on board, who's AWOL and who's against us--here's the preliminary rough draft:

At this point, it only shows those that have actually filed at the SCOTUS level per the above-referenced comments, which I have not double-checked--point being, this is a rough draft only intended to express the concept. Maybe I should also add a symbol for those states that filed a brief at the district level, and another if they signed on to the Ashcroft support letter...

Of course, if somebody with actual graphics skills and the ability to create an interactive map where you could click on states and symbols and link to copies of the briefs, etc., wanted to take this project over, I wouldn't mind stepping out of the way one bit.

Still waiting to hear from the AG in PA.I guess it's taking awhile for the computer message generator to decifer the info I sent on the matter.

The PA AG office is pretty poor about getting back to people in my experience. I've sent them e-mail and snail mail and never gotten a response. If Corbett wants my support for a run for governor, he needs to get his office in order.

I had found out that our attorney general originally signed on in favor of DC!! He later withdrew his name but has not signed on with the other AG's.

I called and a rude staff member said they were "unfamiliar with the case" that I was referring to. So I have begun writing letters to the editor and having other people contact him.

Get that rude staffer's name--have someone else call and this time, not only have the staffer ID himself, but also get a name and edress where Heller info can be sent--there is no excuse for them not being familiar with the case, no excuse for not supporting it, and absolutely no tolerable excuse for a damned staffer to be anything but civil and interested in helping when a Citizen calls.

If further rudeness happens, it's time to start posting about it--including the pompous weasel's name and contact info.

David,
Here is my letter to Attorny General Suther of Colorado and his reply.

Attorny General Suthers,

Just a couple of days ago Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced his intent to support the Second Amendment as a "right to bear arms" for individuals, not just militia members, by joining a brief to be filed with the U.S. Supreme Court. Do to our State's long history of supporting the rights of it's citizens I would urge you to also join in this brief. I believe, and the writings of the Founding Fathers backs that belief, that the Second Amendment is clearly an individual right and I hope that you would lend your and our State's political weight behind that interpertation.

Thank you for your time,

James Ryan *******
13 year resident and voter of Colorado

Mr. ******,
The Attorney General field a brief when the case was in the Court of Appeals. It is likely he will re-file for the Supreme Court case.

Sincerely,
Office of the Attorney General
