A passenger who went through an airport security checkpoint -- before remembering that he had a loaded gun -- is facing charges after going back to report his error, authorities said.
Yeah, that's because he proved to them what a big threat he was. Plus, it's not like he's somebody important, like mayor Frank Melton or state senator Juan Hinojosa, or district court judge Sylvia James or anybody...
Note to everyone: "The Only One" functionaries are not your friends. And based on results, they're not much in the way of protectors, either.
He should have walked back out and did whatever he needed to to secure the gun, even if it meant missing his plane. It sure would have been a lot cheaper than what he's facing now.
See what trying to be a good citizen gets you?
I'd have been tempted to proceed with my flight and take care of things on the other end. But then, that's hypothetical, because I've never been in possession of a firearm where I didn't damn well know it.
Now, here's another story about TSA professionalism I thought would brighten your morning, courtesy of Jeffrey H...

Tough call:
By all rights, if he wasn't going to have to go through security again before reaching his destination, it's tempting to say he should have just gone ahead on his trip and had it unloaded in a box when he went to fly home...BUT...that would make it into a Fed FELONY.
What he did was stupid but we don't know if he had a car in the carpark or not.
Best bet would have been to leave the secured area without saying anything to anybody and reschedule his flight so he could sort a locked box if he didn't have a car to put it in.
We're Monday morning quarterbacking here but I'm with you, telling anybody about it was probably the dumbest thing he's ever done in his life and it will forever follow him in the TSA computers.
Lots cheaper to miss a plane than go to jail and have a mark on your permanent record.
Of course, if he'd been an actual criminal and worried about it, he would have wiped it and the ammo down for prints and tossed it in a bin in the gents and bought a new one at his destination.
Melton is my mayor. Crazy. He did plead guilty to carrying a gun in a church, and a park, and no contest to carrying in a school. But, they haven't brought him up on carrying 'two' guns on a plane yet. Hmmm...
This says everything that we need to know about airport security.
Jeffrey H's story sort of defines who the domestic terrorists are doesn't it?
Perhaps the clock is about right.
