Another Conspiracy Theory...

...except this time, it's been recorded on C-SPAN and revealed on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Martial law. Pre-election scare tactics? Anybody think plans aren't in place for when certain conditions are met?

Who knows if the current series of events will be the ones that trigger a suspension of what was supposed to make America different. If not this disaster, we face others threats of equal if not greater danger. And many are but a meal or two away from no food and water.

The fact that martial law is being discussed in the Congress should give everyone pause--as much as we'd like to deny or at least ignore the unique dangers of our time.

As an aside, knowing what he knows, it's telling that Brad Sherman is a moron on guns. I remember some years back he was challenged by Babylon 5 actor, Jerry Doyle, who lost in a landslide. I emailed Doyle at the time asking his position on RKBA, and his support for it was too tepid and fraught with "reasonable restrictions" to warrant getting behind.

UPDATE: I'm told in "Comments" this refers to "Congressional Martial Law," basically a way to pass all kinds of stuff into law that our representatives won't have a chance to understand before voting. That seems just as dangerous--more insidious and something that will be said and done before "We the People" will even know what happened. That said, Sherman's claim was that "a few members were even told that there would be martial law in America [emphasis added] if we voted 'No.'" He did not say "congressional martial law."

As I originally asked: "Pre-election scare tactics?" Who knows?

It's incumbent on Mr. Sherman, who made the charge, to explain himself--including letting his constituents and the rest of us know who told him exactly what.

Who will help me ask him?

I would like to know who made the threat of Martial law. Is there any way to find out?

I think this is like a test of what would happen and how many notice the words being bandied about. The group or cabal may be testing the water. I believe this because they're all asshole buddies on the Hill anyway.Conspiracy theories? Naw, I think these dunderheads have a real plan, and they're waiting for their messiah to ascend the throne.

like, which white house staffer got the message across? because there's only one person who can actually declare martial law.

mind you, it's not exactly constitutional. but who needs a constitutional power when you can just give it to yourself?

If the situation was bad enough for "martial law", then here's what they should do:

1.Immediately suspend any and all gun laws for the duration of the crisis.

2.Load all the congresscritters, Supreme court jesters, and the Prez and VP into a space shuttle cargo bay and blast them into orbit "for their safety".

When they are willing to do that, I will know they are serious about our safety.

I see that a federal appeals court has ruled that attempts to subpoena Bush aides and White House e-mails has "run out of time."
This is about the Gonzales Justice Department's firing of federal prosecutors who didn't play according to policy, but it could be about anything.
They stick together with their technicalities.
We may never know who, but there will be enough blame to go around.

The Martial law they were threatened with is Congressional Martial Law:

Did not know about the difference myself until this past weekend.

David,

Yes, there was no distinction from Sherman, but right after Sherman spoke, Rep. Burgess of Texas stated:

"I understand we are under Martial law as declared by the speaker last night."

Yes, it is fear mongering of the worst sort, and NO we are not being allowed nor will we continue to be allowed to see the legislation.

I think the time is nigh myself.
