Homemade Guns

So, where do you start? Well, you need plans, of course. You could copy an existing firearm, like those Pakistani craftsmen do, or like the World War II-era Polish resistance and pre-independence Israelis did when they churned out vast quantities of Sten guns. Or you could acquire plans purposely created for home manufacturing. Yes, they exist. And one of the better known sources for such plans is Philip A. Luty. [More]
If I wasn't on an abbreviated schedule, I wouldn't have missed this one two days ago from J.D. Tuccille.

Good stuff.

"the best use for simple gun plans may be to mail them to members of Congress as evidence that Americans are prepared to short-circuit their most draconian efforts"

- Great point!

Just as an interest in studying Organic Chemistry will flag you as a prospective explosives fabricator or illicit pharmacetical manufacturer, so won't the upsurge in interest in metal shop fabrication techniques flag potential weapons manufacturers.

I have seen excellent outlines for manufacturing Sig Sauer P226 frames in a personal machine shop posted online. The poster used readily available parts to complete the weapon.

Simple answer: study a bunch of things at once. The paranoids are going to be paranoid about everything. I doesn't matter--start learning now, no matter your purpose. It's all useful anyway.

anybody can make a slam-file shotgun out of iron pipe and fittings in an evening or two.

I would like to see a set of plans that used simple materials and common hardware-store parts to make something more than a single shot.

Maybe we need some open-source firearms designs

They have some very interesting things over there. The price of admission is worth it to dig through their archives.

You can hit scribd for some of the PA Luty stuff. Couple that with the cheap and readily available chinese made tools flooding us thanks to harbor freight and just think of the possibilities.

Of course, should you want to think on the lines of the military with their drones and whatnot hit make, RC shops, walmart for a wireless security camera and things can get interesting.

The big question is, what will you do with your time off thanks to the Obama self stimulation plan. Research? Develop? Build?

See, now, this bugs me.

The article I reference prominently features The Home Gunsmith and the book "Expedient Homemade Firearms: The 9mm Submachine Gun."
