50-Year-Old Article Outlines Real 'Homeland Security'

The April 1959 issue of Guns Magazine is now online, and I call your special attention to the article starting on page 38, "The American Rifleman in Civil Defense" by and William B. EdwardsDavid Soule. [More]
Real "Homeland Security" cannot be accomplished without "Civil Defense." Today's Gun Rights Examiner column introduces an article from half-a-century ago explaining an important aspect of that. Plus, you'll get to read the whole magazine, which is always a treat.

Also see what's happening in Oregon and get the latest from my fellow GREs.

History is amazing; who'd have thunk there would exist armed Civil Defense volunteers in NY?

Of course the seeds of 'only one-ism' show in the comments of the Sheriff who would 'never' call those guys out unless the reds were coming up Main St.

In '59, American troops were occupying Germany and Japan as they rebuilt, to make sure nothing of a military nature got fixed.
Safe to say that most people were VERY aware of the Japanese general's warning to the Emperor: "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."
Enemies foreign and domestic would do well to remember those few but very heavy words.
